Why does the GOP want someone who can "show Obama up"?

When Reagan and W ran for reelection, I didn't care that our candidate make them sound stupid or look stupid. I just wanted to win. That was my revenge. But the current GOP, at least those in SC and those who attend debates, seem to want a candidate who can put Obama in his place in a debate. A face to face shaming or belittling of Obama. I don't remember this when Clinton ran for reelection. Was that a motivating factor then? Is it straight up racism? Or do they resent him because he can't do the "good ol' boy" act like Clinton did? Or do I not remember 1996 that well?

I think I have a pretty good idea the difference in the people here and where my home is originally MD. It's nice that you are so very smart. I always had a hard time taking tests. I was an average student. But the one thing my momma told me to do was make friends with people who know alittle bit more than you that way you can learn something to. I found out my momma was a very smart lady and I considered her and my dad heros.

They hate either one of those more than enough individually (Dem Prez OR Black) ... put them together, and they foam at the mouth.

These are white folks who think they should be MORE successful than they are. They think that democrats have helped blacks, and THAT is what keeps THEM from being as successful as they think they "should be".

Obama is both ... a Dem Prez and black. And so they actually think they are headed for FEMA work camps.

It was bad enough with the dems giving the blacks all the advantages, now a BLACK is giving the blacks all the advantages ... and so clearly the next stop for good Christian White folks like them ... Auschwitz.

Newt could bang a troop of girl scouts on Saturday morning TV ... and be forgiven.

Meanwhile Obama is the anti-Christ.

That's how they see it, even if they pay lip service to racial equality.

They threw rocks through windows after Health Care.

The first glass to shatter on that American Krystal Nacht was in my own city, Tucson, AZ. It was a rock through Gabrille Giffords office window.

If they wanted to start a civil war because of that lame health care package, imagine what would happen if Obama won?

We're all in our 40s now, some of us have moved, all have families, and we don't see each other much, except for a golf trip each summer.

The group is about 14 guys, and about 4 or 5 of them fall into the crazy group I described.

One sent an email about how Obama was destroying the constitution, terrible for business, turning the US into the soviet union, and giving reparations to minorities. And so, he was supporting Rick Perry because he respected the Constitution.

I responded and pointed out that (1) the Soviet Union didn't exist anymore and that (2) the DOW is up about 5000 points, and (3) Rick Perry loves the Constitution so much that he wants to change it in 4 important ways (then I outlined those).

Of course when confronted with facts, he responded with a different insane rant. And a few of the other guys joined him in ranting, but most of the others agreed with me.

This was about 3 days before Perry dropped out. I asked him if he plans to support Gingrich now. No response yet.

Each of the angry guys is a personal mess. Each has struggled to maintain work, mainly because of their attitude. 2 are divorced, one twice.

At least we never discuss politics on the golf trip.

"ORANGEBURG, S.C. - - Newt Gingrich trundles into the meeting hall - - a former X-rated movie theater - - to rapturous applause.
He is not the best-looking guy in Republican race or the best-funded or the most ideologically pure. But he has found his shtick, and he is shticking to it."

"Newt Gingrich is the angriest man in America."

"Mitt Romney will tell you that Barack Obama is a “nice guy” but that he is “in over his head.”

Newt Gingrich is angry

"Newt Gingrich will tell you Barack Obama is “the most radical and most incompetent president in our lifetime!”

"Obama is more than incompetent, in fact. To Newt, he is a moron. “It’s one thing to say the White House can’t play chess, it’s another to say it can’t play checkers,” Newt says and pauses like the professional he is for the laugh to build. “But tic-tac-toe?”

"But Obama is more than stupid. He is dangerous. This is important to keep in mind."

"The Gingrich campaign is based on the notion of perpetual struggle against perpetual peril."
“How many of you believe the left will fight us every step of the way even after we win?” Gingrich asks the crowd."
The next day, Gingrich will win the South Carolina primary.

They also live with the stigma of having given two terms to the Village Idiot. Bush is one of theirs, and they desperately want to make the smart guy look bad. They're bullies, and I'm willing to bet there's a fat chunk of jealousy involved, too. Here in SC, a lot of it is a desire to "put the uppity black man in his place." However, throughout the rest of the country, they can't stand how he has been constantly one-upping his predecessor, who was, at one time, their pride and joy. Obama got Bin Laden within three years, where Dumbya couldn't after nearly eight. He got us out of Iraq. He saved the auto industry. He stopped the economy from going over a cliff--a trajectory their guy put it on. Of course they want to make him look bad. It's the only way they'll feel better about themselves.

That and his "No, I'm not going to answer your question, you journalist lowlife" childishness. Like Paul Krugman said, he's what stupid people think smart sounds like. All of their previous front-runners, who they fawned over, all proved to be complete imbeciles, who couldn't string together all those thoughts that were "twirling around" in their fat, little heads--when the could remember them. And, then there was their beloved GDumbya... I can see how Gingrich seems "smart" in comparison.

They've spent 32 years arguing that tax cuts will increase government revenues. Like being anti-science wasn't bad enough, they're openly anti-mathematics. So, yes, I expect any Democratic candidate to "show up" a Republican nominee. The Republicans certainly had a personal, intense grudge against both Clinton and his wife... not just in 1992, but again in 96. This is what the impeachment farce was all about.

Offspring of a mixed marrige between a librul and a furriner - an African to boot! Went to a Moozlim grade school - did'nt even speak English less'n his Momma made him. Goes to school in Ha-waia (which ain't even Amurrica to these goobers...), then to college In New Yawk City at that Colombia place, then went to Harvard Law to be a Jew lawyer!
Hard to get more uppity than that, less'n it's that n*^%$* woman he shacked up with - that don't want to but bacon grease on greens. Why I never.......

Then for him to have a masterful command of the English language and constitutional law... Why, it's more than us plain folks can bear!

IMHO, the fools would spontaneously combust if he was a good shot, or could drive a race car or tractor trailer. I have long thought that John Kerry missed some good chances to connect with the electorate via something like trapshooting or his motorcycle.

27. IMO it's 'cognitive dissonance'
Mon Jan 23, 2012, 01:17 AM

about Black people.

Ordinarily, whites who deep down feel intellectually superior to Blacks--even though consciously they may or may not realize they are prejudiced--simply can ignore the existence of Blacks who better them intellectually.

But when a Black man is President of the United States, periodically reality MUST conflict with their conscious or unconscious prejudices. Remember when the Republicans invited the President to a healthcare Q and A session at their Baltimore retreat? The President put them to shame with his command of facts and figures that refuted every one of their silly talking points. "Jeb (Hensarling), that's not true and YOU KNOW that's not true", said the President at one point.

Even Fox "News" initally covered this Presidential slapdown, before Ailes decided to deep-six the President's confrontation of Republican lies with objective truth. That event must have been literally a nightmare for millions of Fox viewers, one they still are repressing.

Republicans tried to counter the President's superior instant command of healthcare facts with excuses like, "He used a TelePrompter", or "He had way too much time at the podium",
But their cognitive dissonance still evidently continues to torture them.

If conscious or unconscious racists ever were forced to admit to themselves for one second that President Obama has a superior instant command of the facts and figures of policy, then every encounter with a Black person, past, present and future, presents a possible contradiction of everything they've ever been taught about race their entire lives.

The cognitive dissonance the President has caused for millions of conscious or unconscious white racists must have become crippling by now. Republicans may need a Great White Hope to "put the President in his place" just so they can sleep at night.
