Listen, this crap about death by car vs death by firearm has got to stop

It is a lose / lose on both sides of the argument.

That being said, I'm still far more concerned about the Friday night drunk driver than I am about the psycho gun maniac.

If I were an inner-city drug dealer maybe my concern would shift more towards the gun violence. Fortunately I'm not.

"More people are beaten to death than killed by long guns." How about ALL guns?

Some guy Face the Nation came up with that, but no one on the panel noticed.

If I were the mother of a six-year-old child, I would be more concerned about gun violence at this time than about drunk drivers. Drunk drivers mostly emerge at night when my six-year-old is safe in bed.

I could go for a ban on alcohol, but a lot of people wouldn't.

I think we might be able to get some regulations, if not a ban, on automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

Who was sitting in a first grade classroom in CT two Fridays past.

Still the drunk drivers are far more dangerous to us since we have to drive quite a bit. an alcoholic could be drunk any time.

To drive you need a driver's license. And driver's licensees are graded. You have to pass specific tests of proficiency.

Younger drivers often have restricted licensees indicating how late at night they can drive or how many non-family members are in the car when they drive.

I can drive a car, but I can't drive an 18 wheeler. To do so, I need a special license. Same for commercial dump trucks and similar vehicles. I need a special license and I have to pass proficiency tests to get that license.

So first, point out this fact, and then tell whoever raised that argument that you AGREE people should need graded licensees for different types of gun ownership, like they do for vehicles.

Tell them "Thanks!! That's a GREAT IDEA!!"

Tell him you are going to send HIS idea to everyone you know.

Then watch his head explode.

Get a license, register a car. Go get legally drunk, get in your car and kill a few people.

Seems like an all too familiar story.

You lose your license.

Get caught with a weapon above your license grade, you lose your weapon and your weapon license.

Your turn.

btw ... deaths by drunk driving are DOWN thanks to DWI laws.

I mean, why bother having a FAA? Why have air traffic safety rules and standards?

After all, airplanes don't kill people, gravity kills people. You can't regulate gravity, so why bother with rules?
