Grover Norquist: Obama and Democrats Using Newtown for ‘Political Purposes’

National Rifle Association board member and president of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist said on Sunday that President Obama and Democrats are politicizing the Newtown tragedy by pushing for gun control.

“We ought to calm down and not take tragedies like this, crimes like this, and use them for political purposes,” Norquist told me on “This Week.” “President Obama has been president for four years. If he thought some gun control could solve this problem, he should have been pushing it years ago.”

“Democrats had a majority in the House and a supermajority in the House and the Senate for the first two years that they were in office. If they thought that this was really an important issue they might have done something then. They didn’t,” he added.

Norquist endorsed the recommendation made by NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre at a press conference on Friday to place armed guards in schools across the country.

NRA's 'ludicrous' proposal to have armed guards at every school would cost $3.3 billion

He cares not a bit about those victims. I pray that in 2013 he is revealed by the media for the nut that he is.

so often.

Asking a person on the street would probably get you a more accurate view of the day's events. The problem is that the media woulodn't be able to leave that alone and would have to balance it off with a contrary answer to even it out and come to no specific answer.

He is also an idiot, who can't sense what way the wind is blowing when it comes to gun control or taxing the rich.
His statement suggests that he closely tied to the gun lobby for his power and influence, otherwise he would not publicly defend the universally condemned, NRA proposal to put armed guards in every school.
He is a man struggling to survive after being the radical voice of the losers. He is still clinging to the past because he has burned all bridges that lead to the future.
He is a laughing-stock.
The media treats him as an important voice because they are on the same side as he.

These people have such self loathing they can't even conceive of the fact that politics can be a positive force in the universe....This blathering is another reflection of their rotting brains. They need to go on the NRA list of the "deranged"

Grover and Wayne are in the same boat, we want what we want, we want to continue to get paid for scaring the crap out of those who are paying you for a service the rest of us do not need. Go back in your shell, either help but stop hurting.

This is the standard NRA response after a mass murder.

One day after the killings: "Our hearts and minds go out to the victims of this tragedy."

One week later: "Now is not the time to politicize this issue."

Blaming President Obama for not proceeding after gun control legislation during his first four years is absolutely psychotic. During the first election the NRA was screaming, "Obama's going to take your guns! Send us money!" When that didn't happen the cry became, "He was waiting until his second term, when he didn't have to face re-election, and then he's going to take your guns! Send us money!"

Now it's, "Why didn't he take your guns when he could have? Send us money!"

The NRA has but one function -- to increase gun sales.
