http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/fl/florida_republican_presidential_primary-1597.htmlLast two polls, the only ones since South Carolina, have him up on Romney by 9 and 8 points respectively.

(22,308 posts)Mitt has so much money he can drag this out a while and Newt might have a "Dean Scream" moment.
Nevada might be good for Mitt since he has roots to Utah, and Michigan a week before Super Tuesday too.
I think both are terrible candidates so I really don't care that much. I think the way to run against Newt is to run against Reagan and his legacy. I would love to destroy that myth once and for all so I guess I would rather have Newt win, but Mitt is fatally flawed too.

(3,880 posts)the two sides of NEWT
NEWT HAS TWO SIDES : WHAT HE CLAIMS AND THE FACTS!
And with all the current bank bailout deals which are destroying our nation from within, do we not recall that Newt Gingrich is the Granddaddy of bailing out banks and set the stage for bank bailouts back in 1991 when he hooked up with other progressive RINOs in Congress to pave the way for bailing out savings and loan institutions to the tune of $40 billion?
How about the $52 billion for agriculture program subsidies and food stamps? Is this not spitting upon the defined and limited powers granted to Congress? And, what part of our Constitution allows federal revenue to be appropriated for public housing and community development? Or the $ 200 billion plus Gingrich voted for the Departments of Labor, HHS, and Education? Do these misappropriations of federal revenue supported by Gingrich not bother real conservatives? Im more than certain they do not disturb RINOs and progressives, as a matter of fact RINOs and progressives embrace these misappropriations
WHAT TO BELIEVE? NO PROBLEM JUST CHECK HIS RECORD ! SEE HOW HE LEFT WASHINGTON IN 1998!

If Noot does get the nod, I'd like to see him confront Obama in a debate. Obama would have Noot's lunch for him.

(32,886 posts)Sometimes the electorate surprises you. I dont think independants and moderates will appreciate Newt's snarkiness, but again, sometimes folks surprise you. Like when they voted for 'W'. And yes, I know he didnt win. Still, 49% of the country voting for that idiot was surprising.

(18,125 posts)Newt is very intelligent, and mean. He can handle himself quite well in a debate. Obama is intelligent but not so mean. It will be up to the liberal PACs to reveal what Newt is really like.

(4,465 posts)It's hilarious listening to the GOP establishment tear him apart. Romney is especially funny with his sputtering indignation about how BAD Gingrich is. I read that Gingrichs' camp has started telling Romney he needs to back off Gingrich so as not to hurt him in the general -

(37,540 posts)I'm not sure what the numbers are, but apparently Newt is not running in all of the states? If so, I'd be interested in knowing what states he's not on the ballot and how many delegates are not available to him. It would be hilarious if Newt continues to clean Mitt's clock, but can't get a nominating majority of delegates because he missed the deadlines to be on the ballots.

(50,349 posts)Romney was way ahead in South Carolina after the New Hampshire primary and look what happened. There are still 8 days to the vote and, as we have seen, anything can happen and probably will, lol.
President Obama will beat either of them, Romney or Gingrich, so I am just stocking up on while watching the circus that is the repub primary.

(36,827 posts)Gingrich hasn't really been a target for that long, considering all the other drivers that have had a turn driving the clown car. Once the public starts getting educated on all of Newt's fuckups and flip-flops not to mention his mental breakdowns, he's not going to be so attractive even to the rubes.
Really the best case scenario is that the GOP nomination will remain in contention till super Tuesday. This will deplete the GOP super PACs and kill any monetary advantage they might have had in the general election. Newt would certainly be the easiest to defeat, but a cash starved Romney will be almost as easy to defeat.

(26,549 posts)1) He's not on the ballot everywhere. Hard to get delegates when people can't vote for you.
2) He hasn't really been attacked yet. GOP establishment + Romney are now going to pull out the knives. In response, Newt will make a nuclear blast look mild. Newt is at his least appealing when he's counter-attacking and he is fundamentally unable to resist the urge to counter-attack. Plus, all his dirt will start coming out.
That said, as a Democrat I would love for Newt to be the nominee. Obama would crush him.

(61,695 posts)Gingrich has a long way to go to catch up. He said that Floridians do a lot of absentee/ early voting, and so most of those votes would go to Mitt.

(692 posts)It's not like he's about to run out of scandals. Everything Mittens has on him is gonna be coming out now. Of course Mitt has no real punch in him. But he does have Karl Rove & Fox and the full nasty Rightwing establishment on his side now. Newt has only the Tea Party amateurs and his own unpleasant working demeanor to rely on until the Super Tuesday primaries. There's plenty of time for this volatile field to shake itself up again.
Newt's the favorite, to be sure, but he ain't no show-in yet.

(4,238 posts)Oh, how I wish he could be, but the numbers aren't in his favor. Even if he takes Florida, he's not on the ballot in Virginia, and most likely will not win the northern states (not as many evangelicals), and definitely not the western ones (higher population of Mormons west of the Mississippi.) Still, I hope he does as much damage as possible until Super Tuesday
