Newt Longs For A "Classical America" Where A Man Like Gingrich Could BUY/OWN A Man Like Barack Obama

NEWT: …what we are going to argue is that American exceptionalism, the American declaration of independence, the American constitution, the American federalist papers, the founding fathers of America are the source from which we draw our understanding of America. He draws his from Saul Alinsky, radical left-wingers and people who don’t like the classical America.

What “Classical America” Are You Talking About Newt?

Hearing this line I can’t help but wonder what “classical America” Gingrich is really talking about. Is it the one where a man like Gingrich used to be able buy a man like Barack Obama as a slave, the one where a man like Obama might be counted as 3/5 a person according to the Constitution, or the classical America in which women didn’t have the right to vote?

I deeply respect many of our founding fathers for being smart, principled and very forwarding thinking individuals for their times, but they were still products of their times. Many of the principles they championed, however imperfect, and what they did to move the world towards democracy were extremely important. But no one should be blind to their sins.

No individual in the 21st century should worship without question the classical America of our founding fathers, given its many incredible injustices. The only reason the country has progressed towards the land of the free, not just the land where Anglo-Saxon males are free, is because generations of so called “left-wingers” such as suffragists, abolitionists, civil rights and immigration activists saw what was deeply wrong with classical America and fought to fix it.
