"Anonymous" Strikes Again: Steubenville, Ohio rape case

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/25/sports/hackers-of-steubenville-football-teams-web-site-demand-apology-in-rape-case.html?ref=sports

Hackers of Football Team’s Web Site Demand Apology in Rape Case

(snip)
Computer hackers hijacked the Web site of a prominent Ohio high school football team late Sunday, threatening to release the personal data of school officials, coaches and every player on the team if those involved in a suspected rape did not publicly apologize to the girl and her family.

A group calling itself Anonymous, a hacker collective, and KnightSec posted a note and a video on the Web page of the Steubenville High School Big Red football team, a program in the Ohio Valley known for its dominance. The note stated that the city of Steubenville was protecting its beloved team by charging only two of its players with the rape of a girl “when everyone present was guilty.”

In the video, a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask said that the names, Social Security numbers, addresses, names of relatives and phone numbers of people connected to the case were being compiled and would be made public if an apology from those involved did not come before Jan. 1.

“This is a warning shot to the school faculty, the parents of those involved and those involved especially,” the person said in a computerized voice.
(snip)

The rape case was the subject of an article dated December 17 in the New York Times:

I believe it would haves. If not the actual rapists, then some of those witnesses. Especially the ones who tried to stop it. Teenagers in a drunken stupor will do really stupid things, and some of them may have a vague feeling that what they see happening is wrong. If they were taught not to rape they would have been much more sure of the wrongness of what they saw.

all that is left is High School Football.

Not excusing the behavior by any stretch of the imagination, just adding to the story.

Jocks in these small town are heroes.

Can the same tactics for NRA officers, hedge fund managers who own stock, gun dealers, gun manufacturing corporate heads bring an end to gun proliferation?

How many times have DUers complained about entities setting themselves up as judge, jury and executioner?

Isn't that what Anonymous is doing?

Someone, somewhere got wind that a crime occurred and now vigilante wannabes want to pretend they know all the facts and it doesn't matter who gets hurt in the meantime so long as they get their moment of glory.

Anonymous has been wrong before. They have 'outed' the wrong people as pedophiles. How can this possibly turn out differently?

Thing is, Cruikshank didn't sit down and have a go with his pencil box.
But thanks for the concern.

BTW, next time there's a retrospective for Republicans on these new-fangled video furbelows, you may avail yourself of the educational opportunity yourself.

I was born in Steubenville. I always go to Naples when I go back home. Another thing I love is the local pizza. Head up to Toronto to Gem City pizza, it's a new place but has the old square style pizza and it's awesome! Of course the best cooking back home is at my mom's but I won't send you there, lol.

On edit: yep, the ville has sure gone downhill since its heyday. Sad.

the Elm Grove WV Di Carlo's Pizza. Have you ever had their pizza? Out of all the Ohio Valley's Dicarlo's Pizza, Elm Grove is my favorite.

that actually committed the rape. Those that stand by and watch and do nothing are just as guilty.

It's a shame we need Anonymous to balance the scales of justice.

Anonymous has been wrong before. What security is there to ensure that only the guilty are named?

Have we learned nothing from the media naming the wrong person as the shooter at Sandy Hook elementary school?

To me justice would be to see that all involved are arrested and prosecuted via the law. And in this case it is obvious that some of the participants are being given special treatment. Some times special actions are needed when those in charge of enforcing the law become corrupt.

Attacking Anonymous distracts from the crime of rape.

Do you think Robin Hood was a villain?

article I have seen. The local media has done very little coverage on the case. High school
athletes have gotten away with stuff like that for ever around here, it is always covered up.
I saw an incident myself several years ago, a drunk high school football player wrecked a stolen car, never saw or heard a word in the media about the wreck, a stolen car or any drunk driving charge, nothing.
