(This CNN article is from August. However, I just saw a commercial during the Heat/Thunder basketball game on ABC promoting the earlier start time of Jimmy Kimmel Live. I previously did not know that ABC would schedule Kimmel for 11:35 and Nightline for 12:35.)
The late-night TV talk war grows more competitive in January when ABC moves "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to an 11:35 p.m. start, pushing the long-running "Nightline" back an hour.
ABC cited "increased revenue potential for entertainment programming" as a motive for moving Kimmel from the midnight timeslot he's occupied since January 2003.

(32,027 posts)However I have videotapes of Nightline's coverage of the 1989 Tiananmen protests that my parents recorded before I was born. Such great coverage with Ted Koppel that you'd nearly think you were watching PBS!
The reason I watched it was every Friday night I'd watch Jimmy Kimmel for the "Unnecessary Censorship" segment. out of curiousity I'd record also Nightline and maybe the late local news' sports highlights.
And are you old enough to remember the Iran hostage crisis, the event that essentially created the Nightline show?
I found on YouTube a "Best of Nightline" compilation that was done around the early '90s.

Maybe Kimmel is a bad example. This is certainly true of Stewart, and quite often with Letterman.
