I think when the Salamander wins FL, the R Establishment will devote their resources

to killing Newt's campaign.

Their fallback is the brokered convention with a fresh, undamaged dark horse candidate.

They may (most likely WILL) lose to Obama and know it, but will be forced to do what they can to minimize damage to the Party. That means taking out Newt.

None of the old tactics are working right anymore. The right-wing rabble used to be a lot easier to herd where they wanted them. The Marianne Interview failed in attaining its desired effect, and Newt won SC. The masses have awoken from their coma into a light doze, their sleep disturbed by dreams of circling vulture capitalists and disappearing jobs. They have not yet awoken to see full reality, but their collective hypnagogic state is not comfortable, not happy with unsettling visions of Romney circling overhead, looking for his next struggling victim. The Doltenproletariat are no longer quite as manageable as they once were. The Party will have to put extraordinary effort into turning them against Newt. The Republican ship is in storm-tossed seas, and loose-cannon Newt is rolling about the deck on carriage-wheels of truth-telling, crushing and mangling all those who dare to engage him.

Delicious.

There won't be a whole lot the establishment can do unless they want to alienate the "base", former Dixiecrats turned Republican.

This is what they get for letting that fat bastard have any sort of power years ago and embracing the Neo-Confederacy.

to damage Mittens even more. They clearly hate each other and this could be entertaining as hell for a few more weeks.

The longer this show plays, the better for us--and, indeed, the better for the eventual enlightenment of the endarkened Republican masses.

all state and local level offices. They have done much more damage here than at the congressional or federal level.

I know that people are very disappointed in Obama and the Democrats, but to not support Dems at the local/state levels amounts to cutting off ones nose to spit ones face. I just don't get why people would want to do that to themselves, their families, and this country.

There ARE *MAJOR* differences between the two major parties. PERIOD!!

There's really no doubt that once one of these clowns makes it through the killing fields to face Obama, they will be completely eviscerated in the debates.

Most of all Old Fat Rich White guy.

Old fat rich white guy who has, in the past, led to TWO government shut downs because of a perceived personal slight on the part of Pres. Clinton. If he's willing to hold up government because of a bad airplane seat, he's absolutely going to go scorched earth on anyone for anything.

He's insisting on going first in a game of Russian Roulette with an automatic pistol.

the GOP establishment. ABC is a objective news organization; if they lean any direction its liberal. They just happened to get the interview before the debate because thats when Marianne agreed to do it.

I actually thought it would destroy Gingrich, I dont think anyone could have predicted that it would end up being a positive for him.

Just check out its ownership. It's as much a part of the Corporate State propaganda system as Fox.

they lean liberal.

If you think ABC News and George Stephanopoulus ... is trying to help the Republican establishment you're ... not rational.

NBC is corporate too, would you say that about MSNBC? FOX is entirely different; they're an arm of the republican party. But theres no other tv news organization like that.

In fact, the new speaker of the House--who once described his goal as "reshaping the entire nation through the news media" (New York Times, 12/14/94)--has given a great deal of thought to the media and how to manipulate them. One Newtonian axiom is "fights make news" (Boston Globe, 11/20/94). Another skill he has taught to Republican candidates through his political organization, GOPAC, is how to create a "shield issue" to deflect criticism:

"A shield issue is just, you know, your opponent is going to attack you as lacking compassion," a GOPAC training tape advises. "You better find a good compassion issue where, you know, you show up in the local paper holding a baby in the neonatal center, and all you're trying to do is shield yourself from the inevitable attack."
