Congressman who called Pres. Obama 'tarbaby' wants us to know he's skipping SOTU

01/23/12 04:01 PM ET

Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) will skip the State of the Union address Tuesday night in what he describes as a protest of President Barack Obama's policies, the congressman's office said Monday.

Mortenson is the first GOP member to announce that he's skipping the speech. The last time the president addressed a joint session of Congress - September of last year - multiple Republicans opted out, with some choosing instead to watch the NFL's kickoff game or live-tweet the address from their offices.

Lamborn created controversy last summer when he said that being associated with the president would be akin to "touching a tar baby . . . "I don’t even want to have to be associated with him,” Lamborn had said, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. “It’s like touching a tar baby, and you get it — you know, you’re stuck, and you’re part of the problem now, and you can’t get away.”

. . . his office emphasized that Lamborn was not skipping the address as part of a larger protest movement or trying to coordinate his absence with any other members. (They probably refused to touch him)

outing themselves as hateful racist fuckwads lately?

I blame unmonitored comments sections attached to every news site and blog. If a site claims to not tolerate racist or bigoted speech then why is it that almost none of them are on top of that stuff? Honestly someone should sue those sites every time a bigoted comment goes un-deleted for even one minute.

edited for spelling...

That's their job.

Lamborn should have been tarred and feathered and run out on a rail for saying that about President Obama last year.
As for the comments made on such blogs, they are what they are, cesspools for anonymous racists to spew their venom on the internet.

That he represents the largely wingnut city of Colorado Springs is no surprise

Dumb is forever and they are being elected by the dumb ones. If he worked for me he would be fired.

than you do.

Much better if he can't be an adult and sit still for an hour, to head for the play ground.

My advice to him is renounce your citizenship and immediately get on the first plan to Argentina*, you'll probably be MUCH happier there....

(*no insult was meant to the beautiful country of Argentina--hopefully you get my drift....)
