Full medical benefits. Good pension. I was making more than my teachers were making before I graduated in 1973.
The auto plant I hired into was hiring everyone who walked in the front door for top union scale. No drug tests or nothing.
Imagine that.

(14,177 posts)If a person is messing up they should be terminated drugs or not. If a person is using and not messing up, I don't see what the issue is. But, in reality people that are using, probably are messing up. So, they should be fired with or without a test.
Just my obnoxious opinion.

(47,209 posts)When I see what has happened to labour- construction workers used to be able to afford to have a ouse and family. Now you see them bike to their jobs with tool bags in their baskets, and living in overcrowded shares in rough neighborhoods. Workers are disposable these days.
One woman who hired in about the time I did is now the plant manager of that plant. She makes about a million dollars a year.

(47,209 posts)if you told young people about this today, they'd probably be jealous and claimed somehow YOU (we, the generations before) ruined everything for them with our greed. Instead of being pissed of at the corporate overlords!
This is what I hate about the consumerist society we have become. To much love of brands, corporations, and HUGE payoffs instead of interest in society and the workers. Sad.
