(37,540 posts)He's not perfect. I doubt there are any perfect candidates, in terms of absolute fealty to a progressive agenda, who exist in the real world. All I know is there are 4 options in November-
(1) Vote for Obama
(2) Vote for the Republican nominee
(3) Vote 3rd party
(4) Don't vote
Only 1 option does not help and promote the Republican agenda.

(25,026 posts)Of course the present day TeaPubliKlans are devoted to the John Birch Society agenda so Republican recycled Republican policy seems sensible when contrasted against the options.
They aren't sensible, it just seems so in comparison. These old rehashed policies are designed ground up to advance the Republican agend while enhancing the positions of existing profit centers and erroding the commons.

(9,612 posts)#1 is the best option because the Republicans will be worse. It will not stop the advancement of Republican policies, but it's the option that will advance them the least or the slowest.

All four options help and promote the Republican agenda of an unfair tax system, permanent war in Afghanistan, and a continuing rightward drift of political thought in this country let alone on the Supreme Court.
Option 1 helps it least, which is why I'm picking that option. But the second this election is over I start working to put a real progressive Democrat in the White House.

(7,670 posts)all the rah-rah Obama cheerleading freaks me out - cause i have LOTS of issue with the way he has ruled (pro-corporate) in his first term - and the facts that others still seem to think he's awesome - makes me question if that's the side i really want to side with either - due to either their lack of a grasp on reality or purposeful ignorance of the way Obama escalated the pointless war in Afghanistan, didn't even attempt to stand up for the people when it came to single-payer health care, gave tax cuts to the 1%, signed the bill allowing for the indefinite detention of American citizens without access to a trial or lawyer, and helped cover-up the WAR CRIMES of the Bush admin. yeah, i really, really wish we had a better option. in so many ways - the system is fundamentally broken.
i will agree with you that he is at least better than the republicans though - sad as that statement may be.

(9,612 posts)I don't entirely agree with the comparison of Obama cheerleading with the two minute hate, but it can easily lead to something similar.
The next step is usually someone asking the question "where else do you think you're gonna go?" The last time that was thrown up in the left's face, it denied Gore the White House.

(9,612 posts)nothing funny happened there. If you want to know why my book is titled that, I suggest you go buy a copy.
And how clear do you really think you were? Someone brought up Obama standing with war criminals (which he has done, by not prosecuting them) and you laugh. What else were we to think, other than that you were laughing at the war crimes he's ignored?
zappaman
(20,606 posts)if you're book is as well written as your posts, I'm gonna pass.
The laughter is because only an idiot would equate support for President Obama with support for war criminals.
And your comprehension still sucks. Please tell us how the fact that war criminals not being prosecuted means Obama is "standing" with them.
Really, I get that you don't like Obama.
But to equate him with war criminals is something I expect from the right, not someone on a progressive website.
Maybe you should stick to writing about the humor of Columbine. Oh, did I take away the wrong impression from the title? Guess someone was unclear!

(9,612 posts)- Start a sentence with a capital letter. "If...."
- "You're" is a contraction for "you are." This sentence says "if you are book is...." The possessive form is "your."
- "Gonna" is not a word. The correct gerund form of "to go" is "I'm going to."
Moral of the story: those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw dictionaries.

(9,612 posts)One of my heroes in fact. Did you ever read his autobiography? Lots of great stuff in there about beer and flags.
Pab Sungenis
(9,612 posts)That was not clear from the context of the post.
I did not make that claim. I made the statement that one of his worst betrayals was not prosecuting war criminals. That could be seen by some as Obama "standing with" them is a logical extrapolation of his actions; if he is not prosecuting their crimes he must support them.
I made a comment that your smilie implies that you find torture and other war crimes funny. If that is not the case, you might want to edit your post to clarify that.
Actually, I quite like the man. But I dislike the way he governs. Especially when it's compared to the way he campaigns.
The same could be said for blind, unquestioning devotion. Obama is not a cult leader; we are the Democratic Party, not the Branch Barackians. Criticizing his actions is our right and our duty. And insulting people who disagree with his actions is a good way to divide the party. As I said elsewhere in this thread, please don't kick the sleepy dog.
Is Dreams of my Father a book transcribing dreams that the President had about his father? Of course not. The title is a literary device. If you want to know what the title of my book means, here's the back cover blurb:
...except for one boy oversleeping, one stuck babysitting his 12 year-old brother, their getaway car being towed with the guns in the trunk, encounters with protesting mothers and bizarre cultists, and the annoying fact that no one bothered to bring any bullets.
As obstacle after obstacle is thrown in their path, the boys reassess their plans and their friendships. And when they finally make it to school, things really get interesting.
So now you can see why the title was chosen.

(9,612 posts)I just hate the mocking joy coming from certain corners that those of us who disagree with different areas of Obama's administration that we have no other choice.
Then they wonder why we don't share in their joy. Maybe because, like a dog who gets kicked on a regular basis, we're unlikely to trust a hand supposedly extended in friendship.

Think about the inanity of that statement.

Its like choosing to hang close to the bully that only steals your lunch money, as opposed to hanging near the one that takes your lunch money AND beats you up after school besides.
Why wouldn't you? But it doesn't mean it will be easy for progressive minded voters.
Its a redundant OP, and feels a little arrogant. Its a little like one of the kids that surround the "lesser" bully rubbing it in. "whatcha gonna do?...go across the yard and stand with the bigger bully?....what, no? he he he.....now turn out those pockets!"
