What better way to rally the Penn State fans around you then by slapping a lawsuit on the NCAA saying that the sanctions against Penn State are too harsh. Mind you I think they got off pretty easy knowing that for decades the coach all the way up to the university president hid the fact that former defensive coach Jerry Sandusky was molesting young boys. Whats worse was when this did finally get to the PA Attorney General office, then AG Tom Corbett did about the minimum you could do in this kind of investigation by assigning just one cop to investigate. Corbett has his sites on the Governorship and knew that pissing off the Penn State fans would cost him the race. It wasn't until 2011 that the rest of the world found out about Jerry Sandusky and what Penn State did to hide his crimes.
Kathleen Kane ran her 2012 race for PA State Attorney General saying that if elected she would investigate just what Corbett knew and when and whether he downplayed the investigations in order for him to run for Governor. In a few weeks she will be sworn in as the Attorney General.
What better to attempt to downplay Kane's upcoming investigation by trying to rally Penn State fans around him. Penn State is not allowed a bowl bid for 4 years but if they were - they surely would have gotten a bid after this years 8-4 season. Personally I think the first 2 losses of the season were more just growing pains and had the dark cloud not have been over Beaver Stadium I think the record may have been 10-2.
Shame on you Tom Corbett - shame shame!!!
HARRISBURG, Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett said Tuesday he plans to sue the NCAA in federal court over sanctions imposed against Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.
The Republican governor scheduled a news conference for Wednesday on Penn States campus in State College to announce the filing in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.
The sanctions, agreed to by the university in July, included a $60 million fine that would be used nationally to finance child abuse prevention grants. State and federal lawmakers have raised objections to the money being spent outside Pennsylvania.

(14,591 posts)He's guilty as sin in attempting to keep the molestation out of the public eye by preventing a meaningful investigation.
There's not enough Penn State fans to get him elected.

(18,541 posts)The last thing he needed to do was draw more attention to himself. If anyone had good reason to STFU about all things Sandusky, it would be Corbett. May he rot in prison.
Geez, no shortage of stupid Republicans.

(22,000 posts)That very well could be. In that case, Kane should demand hearings of all PSU employees, staff, executive members, and board members to tell when and how much they knew about the case. Putting Corbett under a microscope could severely damage him for reelection.

(11,175 posts)Now the NCAA, a nongovernmental body that colleges and universities join voluntarily, has issued a decision Corbett doesn't like.
His response is to ask the government to set aside the private-sector decision.
If his lawsuit and others like it sufficiently erode the NCAA's authority, then the only way to maintain some control over collegiate athletics (preventing recruiting abuses, etc.) will be -- government regulation.

(100,079 posts)Yeah it's fairly widely known that Tom Corbett was a personal friend of Jerry Sandusky - contributed heavily to Second Mile, and conspired to hide the investigation that painted him as one of the most serial pedophiles this country has ever seen, but what was his real role? I wonder about that.
No punishment is good enough for Sandusky or his conspirators.
