I would like to invite everyone to join me in congratulating the newlyweds

This couple was the first at City Hall, just after midnight. Baltimore's mayor presided. I can't even imagine the joy they feel. This couple has been together for 35 years. All heteros ought to think about that, think about being PREVENTED BY LAW from marrying the person you love.

This is a step further along in man's evolution.

But this year we have all seen a real change such that all future discussions on the issue of LGBT rights will have to come to grips with the inevitable fact that an increasing majority of people in this country support it with no qualifications and no equivocations.

It is a wonderful thing to see. And I have seen all of it happen in my lifetime.

The political world has utterly changed.

I am right now in Spain....that's right, Catholic Spain.....and while some will say "Socialist Spain", I will remind people that abortion is pretty much illegal here without certain limited exceptions and guidelines (and even those were only allowed recently) but.....Homosexuals can marry here....

So, even in Iowa, even in Catholic Spain, people who love each other can marry.... Which is how it should be...

Congrats to the Newlyweds!!!

just to get married and then, through some unspecified intermediate step cause the downfall of every heterosexual marriage around them. The fiendish villains. The laughing is clearly an evil laugh, not one of a boundless joy at finally coming one step closer to being able to have their love and bond recognized by society.

Please note, some portions of the preceding paragraph may be meant with tongue in cheek.

More seriously, it's really cool that more and more states are allowing same-sex marriage and especially that this time the voters voted for it rather than it being a state legislature or state supreme court.

(from the mid 1970s)
and the way the world felt to us then
the way the country felt to us, and the people
and i said to him: "did it ever occur to you that within 20 years gay people still wouldn't be allowed to marry?"
his answer was no. it didn't occur to me either.
of course within 20 years it would be legal for men to marry men and women to marry women.

my god--and look how it turned out.
what the hell happened?
nearly forty years later and how far backwards did we go to only come this far in forty years!

it's mind blowing. and very sad.
we could have been so much better--as people, as a country. not just with gay rights but with everything.

congrats to the couple in the photo. it's been more than a long time coming.

Thank you for reminding me that we have come a long way, even though there is further to go. I wasn't even sure I would see this much in my lifetime.
