Point of order question...

Could the Speaker call for a voice vote and then just hammer down that the bill passed and walk away with nobody on record...

When I was a page in the Ohio House, when there was a bill that might not have enough vote, the Speaker would just call for a voice vote and then ask for a voice vote to pass the measure.

I don't know for sure what would happen in the US House.

Just wondering.

ignoring that would end Boehner's speakership, if there is any life remaining in it.

Maybe he would just love to retreat back to the Buckeye State.

I don't think he knew that Cantor would be undermining him every step of the way.

And if asked for it must be given. Voice votes are common in the House but normally on non-controversial bills.

The Parliamentarian works for the Speaker, so we all know how that goes, but it's not a place a Speaker wants to be.
