Panetta, Executives Discuss Industrial Base, Exports, Jobs

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is deeply concerned about the defense industrial base and will look at a number of reforms to protect companies, Panetta told a group of defense executives Jan. 20, according to sources.

In a meeting with about 40 executives and representatives from the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), National Defense Industrial Association and the Professional Services Council, Panetta spent most of his time discussing a report on the industrial base released in early January by the three organizations.

Panetta discussed his concerns for defense industry jobs, his desire to increase sales of military equipment to allies overseas, and reforms to export controls and the acquisition process that might help industry through years of tight defense dollars, sources said.
