Police said William Paul was intoxicated when he arrived in Charlotte from Lexington, Ky. on Saturday.
Officers said he was possibly served alcohol on the flight.
William Paul posted his bond Saturday night and was released.
Moira Bagley, communications director for Sen. Rand Paul, released a statement reading, "Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena; however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this."

(32,640 posts)Fair or not. One of my good friends in college was the daughter of our mayor, and she talked about having to leave parties in high school when there was drinking, because she knew the ramifications of being caught drinking underage would affect her father's job.
Her parents made it clear that this was something that they needed to consider before making these kind of choices.

(32,640 posts)Not that it's good one way or another - but there are decisions that parents make for their family.
Being a politician impacts your family - just like being in the military impacts your family.
There have been people that decided not to run for office because their family would not consent - Colin Powell was one. A local politician that decided to adopt several siblings was another.
Rand Paul's son had a grandfather and a father in politics. Like Jenna and Barbara, he knew his mistakes would be very public.

I'm betting if he wasn't disorderly on the flight, there would have been no call to the police to meet him at the gate.

(32,640 posts)And his father is a lawmaker - so yes, it's news.
Hammered before 11:00 am should raise several red flags for his family - even for college students, this is unusual.
