GUNS GUNS GUNS

I've been taking a brake since the election but decided to comment again in light of a lot of the comments I have read recently regarding gun control and Sandy Hook and the Aurora CO trail and some of the leaks coming out of Biden's panel on gun control.

First and foremost, what the hell is wrong with people comparing 'hammers' to guns. What a bunch of crap. No one has ever, EVER, busted through a locked front door of an elementary school and killed 20 BABIES and 6 teachers with a damn 2x4. No one has ever, EVER, walked into a movie theater and killed 13 people and injured almost 2 dozen with a damn mallet. Two crazy teenagers have never, EVER, walked into a high school and killed 11 of their fellow students with a damn crowbar. Anyone that floats that meme has serious issues in my opinion. Go back and stare at the pictures of those 20 babies murdered by this psycho with a GUN (the distinction is pointless so don't make one), shooting all of them MORE THAN ONCE and some were shot 11 TIMES.

Reasonable gun control, to include a true assault weapons ban with no grandfather clause, close the gun show loop hole for background checks, limit clip sizes and make cop killing armor-piercing rounds illegal) you don't need a Bushmaster with a drum clip full of 100 armor-piercing rounds to go target shooting or hunting.

I've had my say.

16. No. Gun advocates are just tools.

I live in a rural area where many hunt. I know several people who hunt for meat, people who have no livelihood and who live... off the land. So a deer provides many, many meals. A wild turkey provides a family Christmas dinner.

So I am not against guns, or hunting, although I have neither guns nor do I hunt. But I understand that there is a need here in the wilds of Michigan, a state which has had such a serious economic downturn.

But I cannot buy into the guns for protection racket. Therein lies madness, and homocide. It makes me cry that anybody would see it any other way.

People here hunt for food. Apparently those who advocate hunting for sport would include supposed home invaders. There are no white tail deer invading houses here. And only an occasional raccoon or squirrel. Crime is very low here. Violent crime is basically nonexistent.

People here have guns because they use them to survive, not to protect themselves from supposed alien invasions, or any such thing.

I have no position on the second amendment. But the people around here are decent folks who make do with what they have and what nature provides.

Last year I helped a friend harvest enough apples to make over 500 gallons of apple cider, which we turned into wine. It's a nice brew with which the whole community helped and who benefits.

Rural areas of the world do this type of thing all the time. We prop up each other.

That's what makes a big difference. It's not the guns. It is ethics.

That's the issue. And it's not different from "MIC and Imperialist Army and Robocops" for protection -madness.

There are some DUers who are very vocally demanding 100 percent ban of "guns" while giving full support for MIC, US military imperialism and Robocop police state to "protect and serve" banks. At least when the POTUS is from the D party, not from R or Tea party.

guns make killing too easy. Im an iraq veteran. I know my weapons. I know how to kill with them. I know firsthand the ins and outs of different firearms. The way too easy access to assault rifles that maniacs have in this country needs to stop.

The Revolutionary War was a war. An actual war.

I have never read of anyone using a flintlock to shoot up a school or a public event.

You are romanticizing a past that never was and fantasizing a personal present and future that will never be.

If our government ever becomes fully fascist, how exactly will your toys defend you against drone attacks, pain rays, "Free Speech Zones" behind chain link fences (oh wait, that was the Bush administration), sonic cannons, pepper spray, tasers, water cannons -- and the might of the US Army?

"But, friends, I would like to propose that while all of the above will certainly reduce gun deaths (ask Mayor Bloomberg -- it is virtually impossible to buy a handgun in New York City and the result is the number of murders per year has gone from 2,200 to under 400), it won't really bring about an end to these mass slayings and it will not address the core problem we have. Connecticut had one of the strongest gun laws in the country. That did nothing to prevent the murders of 20 small children on December 14th.

In fact, let's be clear about Newtown: the killer had no criminal record so he would never have shown up on a background check. All of the guns he used were legally purchased. None fit the legal description of an "assault" weapon. The killer seemed to have mental problems and his mother had him seek help, but that was worthless. As for security measures, the Sandy Hook school was locked down and buttoned up BEFORE the killer showed up that morning. Drills had been held for just such an incident. A lot of good that did.

And here's the dirty little fact none of us liberals want to discuss: The killer only ceased his slaughter when he saw that cops were swarming onto the school grounds -- i.e, the men with the guns. When he saw the guns a-coming, he stopped the bloodshed and killed himself. Guns on police officers prevented another 20 or 40 or 100 deaths from happening. Guns sometimes work. (Then again, there was an armed deputy sheriff at Columbine High School the day of that massacre and he couldn't/didn't stop it.)"

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Low post count. NRA talking points. High liklihood of poster being Freeper/Republican troll.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Jan 7, 2013, 11:25 PM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Agree with Alerter...hide.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Sounds like his own rant. He might be, or might be smart ass, or might be a gun toting Dem who just discovered DU.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Sounds real goofy and is probably as described but that doesn't mean certainly is. The post is nothing to hide in and if its self. Give them enough rope to get around the neck.
It is the poster's opinion on and in support of an enumerated right, I cannot imagine that to be something appropriate to hide.
TheKentuckian
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: F'ing trolls, go home!
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Doesn't look very intelligent, but the post doesn't insult anybody or use unacceptable language. I say give him a little more rope and see if he hangs himself with it.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
