Letter from David Bowie in 1970 - Then I recorded 'Space Oddity...'

As I was already a Beatnik, I had to be a Hippie and I was very heavy and wrote a lot of songs on some beaches and some people liked them. Then I recorded 'Space Oddity' and made some money and spent it which everybody liked.

Bowie is coming out with his first new album in ten years:

I have always loved Bowie....considered him to be a brilliant artist who had so much creativity. I alsways felt he had taken on the human experience in many forms and experimented with it far more than most. Whether it was his music, his art, his appearance, his sexuality, I had a sense that he was like so many of us searching. i always loved his eyes. When I heard his music I felt almost like I am floating. I thought it was a beautiful match with his wife Oman. I had a feeling the two had been through a lot in their lives as individuals and found happiness in finding each other.

Then to see this letter. Its not a great prose. its by definition not even well written. Its simple and childlike....but its honest and revealing. It says "here is exactly who I am and how I feel and no fluff and no bullshit - here is what makes me happy - here is what I have done".

I really really like David Bowie - even more now than ever....
