How many threads have you seen here with some form of "I DON'T CARE WHAT THAT TECHNICAL WORD ACTUALLY MEANS I JUST WANT IT BANNED!!!!"?

It's tribalism. Our tribe really dislikes guns, to the extent that the people who passionately care about the issue don't really know much about what they're trying to legislate. Sound familiar?

It would be nice to live in a civilized country although I don't expect to before I die.

I also suspect more than a few enthusiasm trolls are engaged in muddying the waters.

say, "Ban and confiscate ALL firearms!"

That eliminates all arguments over the difference between a semi-auto firearm and a fully automatic firearm, the difference between a hi-capacity magazine or a standard magazine or if a rifle is an assault weapon, an assault rifle or simply a semi-automatic rifle that has been a common hunting rifle for decades.

Since the bottom line for a high percentage of gun control advocates is to disarm most citizens and to live in a country with gun laws like the UK, we could have an honest debate on the issue and totally eliminate all the technical details.

All firearms are potentially lethal. That is a simple fact. The question is if civilians should be allowed to own such deadly weapons or should they be limited to the military and the police.

As a gun rights supporter I would welcome such a simple debate. No longer would I have to explain gun terminology to a person who had no real interest in learning anything about the subject. That's a total waste of my time.

Perhaps Piers Morgan is right and our nation should enact firearms laws similar to those in his nation of birth.

Yeah, those right-wingers after 9/11?

They sucked.

As do the knee-jerking anti-2nd Amendment crowd of the present moment.

Which I suppose is the point of your OP.

So, a fine hello and good evening to you, sir.
