Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Tuesday warned that he might not participate in future debates if moderators didnt allow his fans to cheer.
NBC News had asked the audience at Monday nights debate in Florida to hold their applause until the commercial breaks and Gingrich was perceived to have done significantly worse than in previous debates.
I wish in retrospect that I had protested when (NBC moderator) Brian Williams took them out of it, Gingrich told Fox News Tuesday. I think its wrong. And I think he took them out of it because the media is terrified that the audience is going to side with the candidates against the media, which is what theyve done in every debate.
Were going to serve notice on future debates. Were just not going to allow that to happen, he added. Thats wrong. The media doesnt control free speech. People ought to be allowed to applaud if they want to.

(593 posts)If the crazy live audience cheers for Gingrich the TV audience will think he is the front-runner. If all they hear is his words they realize he is a jerk.

Corporate media would have a field day with Brad and Angelina.
So, why should they bow to this has-been, racist Repub who thinks the world revolves around him?
Deny him and the other Republican candidates their "debates". Let's see how that'll play in their attempt to win the WH.
If a Gingrich shouts racially charged soundbites in an empty room, does he make a sound?

(9,753 posts)When you're enjoying their resources. This is not a free speech issue under any sane interpretation.
But then again, "sane interpretation" is not exactly Newt's long suit.
