It's an illness not a crime to be mentally ill.
I have a mental illness should I be controlled?

That's from a Pew poll.

It doesn't name what they might do, it just puts them on the poll so that the position of high capacity magazines and AWB poll much further down the list.

You should be controlled in a loving, caring and functional way so that you can reach your own potential.

It's not an easy task. You're right. Mental illness is not a crime.

here eventually. It's not like the law cannot be written and updated periodically.

The public's will is growing and the NRA is looking more foolish by the hour.

The US is the only country that has tried to do it this way, by regulating what a semi-automatic weapon can and can't look like. Other countries simply highly restricted access to all semi-automatic weapons, whatever they look like. That's probably a good idea.

It was written in a totally different age with a purpose that is no longer applicable. We aren't afraid of our standing army and if we had reason to be afraid there's really not a lot that weapons would be able to do about it.

Isn't passive resistance more effective than violence?

You take a random sample. If it is truly a random sample, (everyone in the sample population has the same chance of being picked) what is true about the sample is true about the population it was drawn from within the margin of error. The larger the sample the lower the margin of error.
So they don't have to ask you or your wife.

23. And if you ever studied statistics you would know it is more about art than math
Wed Jan 16, 2013, 01:34 PM

In college my statistics professor said that statistics should not be part of mathematics. Mathematics is about absolutes and things that can proven. 2+2=4. You can prove with 100% certainty that statement is true and not many will dispute you.

You can't do this with statistics. Statistical polls are wrong 100% of the time. The only question is how wrong are they? The margin of error depends on far more than just the sample size. Who did they sample? All adults? American citizens? Anyone that picked up the phone? Likely voters?
Then you got to look at how the questions are worded. Are they specific? Is the question loaded? How would most people perceive the question?

You can influence the results simply by changing the wording of the question. The fact this question asks about "assault weapons" puts the whole thing into question. Because every person in this country seems to have a different definition of what an assault weapon is. So when you ask these people if they favor an assault weapons ban, they don't think of it in the way the government is thinking of it...they are thinking of it as they themselves define it. Which means you would tend to skew the results in the favorable side.

Everything needs to be clearly defined for there to be standard across all people.

you can shoot just as fast with a lever action that holds 12+ rounds, banning a black gun, a semi auto gun, a pistol, a gun with a bayonet like ones used in the civil war, will only piss off legal gun owners and make them vote conservative next time around. most people support this because they do not understand that it includes most guns. You would be singing a different song if they were taking away the first amendment....
