has lost its grip on American reality

(53,339 posts)The more the NRA puts out these tone-deaf statements, the more they alienate more of their supporters.

(269,144 posts)I had to wipe a tear away.
I could hardly hold back the waterworks. I couldn't imagine how they felt, still suffering from the loss of their child but obviously so proud he respects the artwork Grace's parents gave him he hung it where he sees it everyday and is reminded of her.

(9,314 posts)I had one child and I cannot imagine ever losing her. But I think when a parent does lose a child, the love never dies, and the pain never stops. I do not know how they cope; that is #1 in the top ten stressors, loss of a child. But I feel sure it is meaningful to them that the President took that piece of artwork Grace painted which her father gave him and hung it in his study off the Oval Office.

(57,936 posts)It's just incredible. I don't always agree with his policies, but I cannot remember a president who was so just plain human and kind. I cannot remember, and my memory of presidents goes back to Truman and Eisenhower. I can't remember any who had the compassion and understanding of Obama.

(1,077 posts)The NRA must be getting desperate. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised at anything they'll say or do. And the sad thing is someone in their group may not display any sense.

(81,415 posts)SHEESH, as a mother, this ad HORRIFIES me!!!
The girls are non-combatants! They're innocent bystanders. They can't help what their father is doing, and they're not out campaigning and getting personally involved and appearing at events with agendas about which they make speeches. They aren't interview subjects on TV and/or radio, giving their opinions. They're TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY private citizens. And as they are still youngsters, they should be regarded and treated as such. They are OFF LIMITS. I hope the NRA digs its own grave with this ad.

(8,821 posts)If one of the President's daughters, or any President's child, were to be seized or harmed it would be a body blow to the whole country. If she were, god forbid, to be kidnapped, we would have to do whatever was necessary to return her safely home. It would not matter if we had to spend billions of dollars and sacrifice hundreds of lives, we would have to do it. To not do so would mean this country would lose standing in the World equivalent to losing foreign conflict on the battlefield. If we can't keep the children of our national leaders safe, what can we protect?
That is why we assign Secret Service Agents to protect those children, for the good of our country.

(192 posts)For a while there, I didn't feel too welcome. I did go a little overboard talking about taking all the guns and referring to myself as "gun grabber," but the Sandy Hook massacre broke what was left of my heart. I wanted to be the scourge of the people who value their guns more than the lives of children.
