All Presidents get attacked & bashed HOWEVER there is a personal, along with the political, tenor & scale of the attacks, abuse & disrespect that this President has to deal with that previous Presidents didn't because he is a first.

He also, of course, has to be extra careful in how he responds to the trash - ala Jackie Robinson. Brewer has now said that she "felt threatened". Really? She was the one sticking her finger in his face.

If you want to make changes that you truly beleive in, you have to hold onto power. But if you have another party against you that's postulating the opposite solutions, with a whole bunch of voters backing them up, you have to appear to compromise to defeat your opponent. You have to constantly pivot back and forth between your true professed beliefs and the beliefs that will take some of your opponents votes away from them. Admittedly, it's a game but it's a necessary and important game that your own constituents don't always realize you are playing. And so they end up getting angry at you because they don't realize you're just trying to keep power in the hands of democrats to slowly institute the changes most democrats beleive in. So very often it may appear Obama is selling but that is only because he have a conservative movement and their voters to deal with. You don't go all in on everything you want all at once and risk angering a huge swath of voters or perhaps failing at at change monumentally. You take it slow.

Think of it this way: what would happen if we kept voting democrat no matter what? If you dry out the republican power well, you eliminate your opponent. If you eliminate your opponent, you don't have to contend with them or their voters. You can finally institute the changes you really beleive in without political repercussions.

English has many words you can use. Choose another one, please.

I'm not sure where to go on this beyond alerting.

We know that some folks (myself included) slip at times, others consistently push the boundaries. It is the latter I'm more concerned about and my feeling is that eventually it catches up with them because most juries are not so lenient.

Juries are inconsistent with posts like this, so I guess all we can do is post directly in the thread. I'm not sure whether that will work over time, but it seems like the best approach. Keep alerting and then, if the jury comes back without hiding the post, post in the thread itself and make the point. Ask the poster if he'd call his mother or sister that name. There are so many better words that can be used that have no sexism attached to them. Perhaps some people's vocabularies don't stretch very far.

BTW, did you check off the TOS option in your alert. If you always do that, some recent arrivals may get banned. Not always, but sometimes.

i think, what i see as a postive on it, with people continually speaking out and some posts are hidden, it effects our ability to jury on du. and seeing it is 3/3 and other threads have been hidden, an observant poster may ask themselves if it is worth hurting their record with a hidden post.

one more juror and it would have gone the other way. other posts today have been hidden. one the other night making warner into a play thing. people will think twice.

you can just type '"Pelosi" "bitch"' in the DU search box to see some of the results. There are many DUers who consider it an acceptable term to use; and back then, many who thought Pelosi was worthy of being insulted like that.

the vitriol I'm seeing from some towards our POTUS is something else. I blame FAUX news for alot of the tension that we've seen the past few years. IMO they've taken the racism out there and amplified it.
