as the fossil fuels ultimate energy source was that starlight. The fuel is simply a storage of that energy. No alien would be surprised humans use stored starlight as an energy source, even one very ancient. Nor would aliens find it surprising that resource management or mismanagement is critical to long term survival of humans or any technological species.
Tyson tries hard to be Carl Sagan but he's kind of meh to me.
