North Korean parents eating their own children..but banqets for Kim

http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/world_news/Asia/article1202322.ece

A FATHER in North Korea is reported to have been executed by firing squad after murdering his two children to eat them during a “hidden famine” that may have killed more than 10,000 people last year.

In a litany of horrors documented by undercover reporters, another man dug up his grandchild’s corpse for food and a third, driven mad by hunger, boiled his own child and ate the flesh.

The stories were collected by Asia Press, a specialist news agency based in Osaka, Japan, which has a network of “citizen journalists” inside North Korea and is regarded as credible. Dozens of interviews and clandestine reports have led the agency to conclude that “considerable numbers of people” — probably more than 10,000 — have died in North and South Hwanghae provinces, south of Pyongyang, the capital.

In terms of pure WTF wasteful spending, the NK version of the Manhattan project makes the pyramids look like a charitable gesture.

Everybody knows that the reports of cannibalism in the Royal Navy are greatly exaggerated.

Not to be flippant, but I doubt the veracity of this story.

On second thought... I mean to be flippant here. I am not buying this.

seem exaggerated, but theres real depravity there. Escape from Camp 14 is the story of Shin Dong Hyuk and his escape from a North Korean prison/slave labor camp). Shin said it was common for prisoners to eat tree bark or scavenge through animal feces for bits of undigested corn.

Granted, the camps are probably a lot worse than the rest of NK, but even in Pyonyang, the capital and presumably the most affluent city, residents are assigned jobs like collecting human waste to use as fertilizer.

I question the credibility of anyone who is in NK and reporting to the outside and not trying to get out.
