I realize to some it may be a big deal, but to the rest of us as a whole is it the big problem that we need to work on?
I thought getting the Economy and unemployed going again was a tad more pressing. I also thought that a huge majority of us were tired of seeing mass casualty shootings and wanted some kind of gun control. I thought that addressing the environment was important too.
I realize that politicians love to pander and this immigration reform might be little more than pandering to a larger chunk of our society.
So, is Immigration Reform a hugely important pressing need, or is it an attempt to pander for votes, or is it a huge waste of time?

(11,464 posts)and if the economy is important, well, to have 11 million citizens paying full taxes, and all buying goods and homes and cars, well, what is better to the economy?
Our founding fathers claimed all men were equal, but that left out 75% of the public from what they wished.

(2,870 posts)is presented is very important and applies to the immigration issue. The obvious demographic message from the election--that the fastest growing group is even more rapidly deserting the GOP--has presented a window for enough republicans to be willing to pursue genuine reform.
With the Rushbos and other racists pulling out the stops to beat the drum against "amnesty" it is to be seen what will be accomplished. But the fact that this is happening now isn't because it is necessarily considered the most important issue, it is simply that circumstances have made action on this important issue possible at this time.

That said, LIMBOsevic finally spoke a truth: He quoted from a study/poll that found immigration was a major issue for Hispanics voting Dem. Of course, he twisted it to mean that Dem Hispanics "believe in government (solutions)" stopping short of his GOING THERE to Mittens' shallow grave of saying Hispanics wanted hand-outs.
Rethugs cling to the delusion that they can reap Hispanic votes with immigration "reform." They delude themselves that Hispanics are "naturally" conservative based on Catholicism and family values. As said in another thread, the Rethug proposals have the poison pills of: NO citizenship path; fines; "temporarily" going back until they get permission. Uh, if they got here OUTSIDE of permits, the incentives in these proposals are not great enough for them to jump through these particular hoops.
