I didn't know my neighbors were racists until today....

Recently I organized an email list for my street. We have a private road in the country and I thought it would be good to have communication, for safety, neighborhood watch, etc. Plus we have to communicate about road repairs and stuff like that. It's a short street with about 12 houses on it, spread fairly far apart. This is rural Vermont.

We agreed the purpose of the email list is just for that kind of stuff. No political stuff, or forwarding heartwarming stories from your mother-in-law, etc. It's not a list serve or anything like that. Just a list of names and email addresses so we can be in touch with each other.

Well the people across the street and one house down just sent me the email pasted below. the CC list is "undisclosed" so I don't know if they sent it to everyone on the street.

I'm appalled. We're supposed to boycott a stamp because it has Arabic writing on it, and its MUSLIM?!?!? The horrors of honoring anything Muslim! What the fuck is wrong with these people? I wrote back and said I didn't see what was really wrong with the stamp, and that I thought our country was supposed to be a melting pot where people from all backgrounds, races, and religions are respected. I said the email was just promoting hatred and racism against Muslims.

I did some research on Snopes and others, and found this has come up before, there was a stamp in 2010 honoring Ramadan and the same email was flying around. Also it appears the stamp in this email is not even an official USPS official stamp, and that it's a private company who makes custom stamps. I don't think it really matters. the fact that they forwarded it to me and others is all I need to know.

Unfortunately I'm going to think a little differently every time I walk by that house now.

Here's the email they sent. Obviously they didn't write it and it's been forwarded around a bit.

Another Eid stamp was issued back then and they had a complete meltdown over it.

That the email system isn't to send political stuff. It's for conducting the business of your neighborhood only.

If that was the agreement on using the email list, they need a stern reminder. I think a copy all forwarding the email they sent would do the trick rather nicely.

it?

Or how they would have reacted to a story like this about some people in Iran reacting to some words from Thomas Jefferson on one of their stamps.

You can put your dog, your cat, or whatever you want on one. Not to mention someone who is good with any design/graphics or photoshop type software could have whipped that up in no time. Easy-peasy as they say.

I agree with the previous poster. Remind them the e-mail list is not for the purpose for which they used it.

...anyone who would send such an email is totally oblivious to reality.

One look at the stamp and you can clearly see "ZAZZLE.COM" imprinted on it. Right up at the top there, can't be missed.

Zazzle.com is a site where people can put their own images and text on all sorts of customized products including postage stamps.

EVERY stamp made in this way CLEARLY states it is produced at ZAZZLE.COM. It has nothing, zero, nada, zip to do with the USPS's stamps, whether commemorative or forever stamps.

Anyone this stupid ... Well it might be worth sending them to Zazzle.com to have a look for themselves. But maybe not.

My area use to be heavily dem. But I don't know how it is today. You never know when your out and about. I even took my Obama bumper stickers off. I sure don't want anyone firing guns at my car. It's nice you want to try to keep in some ideal situation. But be careful now that you know you have a couple of crazies on the block. I am lucky where I live is pretty rural. There are only 3 houses on our street. Ours, my son lives next door and then drive around to the other end of the road is the 3rd house. You can't see it from our side. It's pretty peaceful. The only action we get is when his cows get out of the fence. We call him and let him know so he can round them up.

these scared fools would be better served helping the Post Office repeal what the repubs did to it.

*makes a person wonder at times why the Dems aren't apparently doing a thing about that*
