You're thinking of the Aryan nations, I'm talking about average citizens in those states who are regressive (socially, religiously, and politically), paranoid, and extremists when it comes to hate, misogyny, and bigotry.

Some thought that multiplication in mass quantities was the answer but it has become clear over the last couple decades that that plan has backfired, on a number of levels. So the next tactic is to just get down right nasty. they don't hole up in bunkers so much, although there are some, they just take over entire small communities and run off whomever they see as a threat. You know, a certain sect are so into the prepper thing, as a religious practice, they are mandated by the church of their choice to have a nuclear bomb shelter and two years' worth of food supplies in it for the apocalypse... and they have a doomsday clock ticking as well.

It is something to be concerned about, and they are so whacked out about Obama being president that they see it as an abomination unto their god. the world is surely coming to an end and they aim to see that it does. They are all over the country and they are dumb as dirt when it comes to blind faux patriotism and no clue as to what the Constitution actually says. And there's a Mrs. Lanza in every county, their kids might not be total blow it cases but there are plenty of arsenals in single mom homes.

Those who do have hiding places aren't content to just keep to themselves anymore, like that freeper in Alabama with that child hostage, they are so wound up that they have to act out like that guy. They are so scared that they might be wrong that they simply cannot handle it... especially after this past election didn't pan out like they wanted, they thought they were outsmarting we stupid libruls and 'virnmentalists and fokes wuth a ejumacashun...

Yes, be wary... fear is useless. We need to be diligent in making sure that this country retains its essence.

Four men arrested in Toccoa terror plot

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested four Northeast Georgia men Tuesday, disrupting a domestic terror plot in which the men planned to manufacture ricin gas and distribute it in several major U.S. cities.

The men also were plotting to attack at least one federal government building in Atlanta with explosives, as punishment for what they considered “treasonous” activities, according to a news release issued by the Department of Justice.

Agents with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force had been investigating the men, all members of a militia group, since the spring, according to the news release. Their arrests came just days before one of the men planned to manufacture the ricin at his home in Toccoa.

Frederick Thomas, 73, of Cleveland; and Toccoa residents Dan Roberts, 67; Randy Adams, 65; and Samuel Crump, 68, were taken into federal custody Tuesday.

“These defendants, who are alleged to be part of a fringe militia group, are charged with planning attacks against their own fellow citizens and government,” said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates. “While many are focused on the threat posed by international violent extremists, this case demonstrates that we must also remain vigilant in protecting our country from citizens within our own borders who threaten our safety and security.”

Also Charged with Bombings at North Atlanta Clinic and Atlanta Nightclub

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Federal authorities today charged Eric Robert Rudolph with the fatal bombing two years ago at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park, as well as the 1997 bombings at an Atlanta area health clinic and a nightclub, the Southeast Bomb Task Force announced.

In a criminal complaint filed today in Atlanta, together with a sealed affidavit, the Justice Department charged that the 32 year old resident of Murphy, North Carolina, was responsible for the Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta on July 27, 1996, the double bombing at the Sandy Springs Professional Building in north Atlanta on January 16, 1997, and the double bombing at The Otherside Lounge in Atlanta on February 21, 1997. An arrest warrant was issued today for his arrest on these charges.

Rudolph, who authorities had previously sought for questioning in connection with the three bombings, was charged in February 1998, with the bombing at the New Woman All Women Health Care Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama on January 29. That bomb killed Birmingham police officer Robert Sanderson, and severely injured the clinic's head nurse, Emily Lyons.

"We are going to keep searching until we find him," said Attorney General Janet Reno in an announcement made today at the Justice Department.

Today's criminal complaint charges Rudolph with five counts of malicious use of an explosive in violation of federal law.

The first bombing incident occurred at Centennial Olympic Park, where thousands of visitors had gathered on the ninth day of the 1996 Summer Olympics. The bomb, placed near the main stage in the park, injured more than 100 people, many of them permanently, and killed Alice Hawthorne, a mother who had traveled to Atlanta with her daughter to see the Olympics. A Turkish cameraman, Melih Uzunyol, died of a heart attack responding to the blast.

"The fatal bombing in Atlanta was a terrorist attack aimed at thousands of innocent persons gathered at the Olympic Park," said Louis Freeh, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). "Within the FBI's Domestic Terrorism Program, there is no higher priority than the capture of Eric Robert Rudolph."

The second bombing incident was a double bombing that occurred at the Sandy Springs Professional Building in the Atlanta area in January 1997. The first bomb exploded at the back of the building, which houses the Atlanta Northside Family Planning Service, causing significant damage. The second bomb exploded in the parking lot about one hour later, as medical personnel, firefighters, police and other law enforcement officers worked to secure the scene and evacuate people from the area. Shrapnel from the bomb injured four people, and more than 50 others suffered blast effects.

"This bomber placed secondary bombs designed to kill and maim rescuers, paramedics, firefighters and police officers who rushed to the scene to help," said John W. Magaw, Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). "He didn't care who they were."

Finally, the third bombing incident occurred less than one month after the Sandy Springs bombings, at the Otherside Lounge, a nightclub in Atlanta. In that bombing, five people were injured when a bomb exploded behind the nightclub. A second explosive device was discovered, and the area was cleared, before it exploded. The second device had been placed on the side of the lounge, where medical personnel, firefighters, police and law enforcement agents would respond.

Trust me...there are quite a few hate groups scattered throughout the US...especially in the Northwest...that they haven't uncovered to date because those people don't tell outsiders their business.

Oh, and the Confederacy, the KKK and the Civil Rights era and all of that. It's pretty hard to live down a reputation like that, but IMHO, it's more geographic than anything else.

Just a lot more land in those states than many other states, and less population, so they stand out. That and the history. Having grown up there, I was treated to all the traditional things, although my family and I didn't agree with what the seeming 'majority' did.

It was open and not hidden at all for many years and even celebrated. It's had a resurgence in the last few decades. But at times, I wonder if those of us didn't approve and worked against it in a positive way or refused to listen to certain types, were just in denial about it.

Since the media no longer punishes the kind of behavior we're discussing here, doesn't treat it as anti-American, it has grown. I'm sure you don't mean to pick on the South, but you might edit that word to save some feelings here. But the truth is that you are right, these same areas under GOP control are the ones calling for leaving the Union, arming themselves, hating everything that most of us here consider reasonable and positive.

It is an unpleasant thing, yet we will still encourage our breathren in those areas. They are the ones who are the most challenged. We don't want to lose the South from the Union, although the GOP would likely welcome that. Because they are related to all of us, but the media has driven them crazy.

I find it odd that there are so many here who poo poo the idea that these right wing extremist groups are a threat. That's exactly the same reaction republicans had when DHS's report was released, warning us of this growing menace.

Now that gun regulation is in the forefront, it is all too common to now hear the 2nd Amendment was created to defend against a tyrannical government. This ramped up extreme rhetoric, IMHO, is certainly something we should pay close attention to.

In everyone of these cases they were against them for supporting Obama, or other elements of the party platform, and threatened repeatedly to kill their entire families. There are a lot more. I am sure the Secret Service has a record of threats. These people travel from state to state. I don't think any other country has ever had anything like this to deal with, never.

I get very tired of all sides, who stand on the sidelines and resist learning about government, just throw around slogans and attack it, which leads to the fascists taking over. The idea that Americans are just protecting their rights doesn't work. For at least the last 20 years the federal government has been removing American's rights, and we haven't done a damn thing about it. Free Speech is disappearing (think 'Free Speech Zones'). Amendment VI to the Constitution can be bypassed whenever the government wants (Fair and speedy trial, knowing the charges against you, facing your accusers.) Amendment IV is totally scrapped in favor of governmental seizure of property if your are 'suspected' of having something to do with drugs - and then the burden of proof is on you to prove you didn't have anything to do with drugs.

The only right that all these so-called patriots are getting exercised about is the 'right to bear arms' with absolutely NO regulation whatsoever. And, even then, there are limitations on they type of 'arms' that private citizens can own. No matter how badly you want one, and no matter how much money you have, you aren't going to be able to go buy your own suitcase nuke, or patriot missile legally.

So why do people get so upset about background checks? Or registering guns? We have to register our cars, boats, airplanes. If we want to drive a car, we are required to carry liability insurance so that if we harm someone or damage their property with our car, our insurance will cover the damages. Why not require liability insurance on our guns?

Why are guns the one 'right' guaranteed in the Constitution that people go into a frenzy over? And don't tell me its to defend against government tyranny. When I ask 'what tyranny' no one has an answer. And, folks, I'm sorry to tell you, you are NOT going to prevail against the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Marines. The government decides to take you out, one or two drones will do the job and all your high-powered semi-automatic weapons with their high-capacity magazines won't do you a damn bit of good.

No reason to fight; they just wanted to. It was as if they didn't understand any form of communication other than a punch in the mouth.

As a gun owner who carries, and who owns a couple of AWs and high capacity mags, I know a number of gun owners, and yes I would have to say that most are RW.

A LOT of them are scared, and I cannot see them rising up and "doing something". Talk a good game? Hell, yes. Actually do something? I would have to call bullshit on that. I just do not see that many of them have the ability to size up real threats. They see almost everyone and everything as a threat, so they live in a cocoon.

The concern I have is that feeble minded dipshits, mostly influenced by O'Heckbaugh, will commit individual acts. Byron Williams comes to mind.

There are about a eighty-million or so firearms-owners in this country. Collectively they own hundreds of millions of weapons. No one knows the exact numbers in either group, many gun owners keep that fact quiet, and an accounting for the number of weapons is and always will be impossible.

Of those eighty-million gun owners, about half are Democrats.

Approximately four-million gun owners are NRA members. They represent some of the more passionate gun rights activists. There are, however, MANY more who refuse to join the NRA because they do not want their names on any lists, and because they feel the NRA is too soft on gun rights. There are other gun rights groups as well, such as Gun Owners of America with 300,000 members. The GOA bills themselves as the "only no-compromise gun lobby," and they mean just that -- their members think the NRA is soft on gun control.

In any group of people, there are always some number that fall into the extremes in their beliefs. This is true whether we are talking about bowling, football, gun control, or gun rights. Most people fall somewhere in the middle, but some live out in the wilderness. If we assume that this number is somewhere between ONE and TEN PERCENT, the number of armed and potentially dangerous gun-rights advocates lies somewhere between eight-hundred-thousand and eight-million.

Let's make the numbers smaller.

If only one percent of NRA members fall into this category, we are still talking about forty-thousand people.

These two men shared something in common, not only with each other, but with millions of gun-rights activists in this country: They see themselves as PATRIOTS.

Now understand, I am not equating the average gun-rights activist with these maniacs. That's as unfair as equating an Islamic suicide bomber with the religion of Islam. So no, I am not saying that even the passionate gun-rights activist is a mass-murdering sociopath. But it is from those ranks that these maniacs come. They are the radical fringe, so radical that even the most passionate militia member says "Whoa dude, you're freaking nuts."

None the less, there is danger. Not only from the lone lunatic, but because our own fringe, the radical gun-control advocates, are apparently determined to feed into the paranoia and hate these people already feel.

They see themselves as Patriotic Americans making a lonely stand against creeping statist government oppression. They see things like the Patriot Act, 9-11, domestic spying, secret prisons, torture, drones, and all that as further proof that the liberal oppressors are coming to get them and their guns. The GOP and their noise machine plays on this and fires them up. They exploded under Clinton, and now that another Democrat is in the White House they are back again -- and this time the Democrat is a "socialist radical marxist muslim" from Kenya! He even has a Muslim terrorist middle name. And he wants your guns!

Our most passionate and strident, right or wrong, want to do just tha -- they do want their guns. They are feeding into it.

So now for a splash of reality. NO ONE is going to take their guns. NO ONE is going to propose real gun control, and if they did it would never pass. Not because of the NRA and not even because of the USSC, it would never pass because the members of Congress voting on this imaginary bill aren't interested in getting killed. They don't want to see car bombs going off at your mall, they don't want to see random police officers and judges blown away on their front lawns. And they understand something that the gun-control fringe with their pictures of A-10's and Apaches, and their fantasies about the violent deaths of gun owners do not: none of those high-tech toys will stop even a single attack by some radical 'patriot' group. The outcome of any such attempt would be carnage on an unimaginable scale, and no one sane wants that.

So no, if you are on the gun-control fringe you are NEVER going to get the gun control you want. What you will get is disappointment, and as you continue to annoy and allienate Democratic gun-owners and second amendment advocates, lost elections. So my advice is simply this, and it is in no way reflective of my personal feelings about gun control:

If you are a serious and passionate gun-control advocate, if you want to repeal the second amendment and see gun owners as the enemy, do everyone a favor and take it down about twenty notches. You are not helping. Take whatever meaningless executive orders and feel-good legislation congress gives you, and call it a win.

Those who say "never" have been proven wrong countless times throughout history, my friend.

Anyway, yes, you have a good point. Chalk it up to ignorant hyperbole.

I was saying what I wanted to say, and hopefully in an easy to read understandable style. Taking what I said into consideration why would my personal desires for gun control be relevant? I will be blunt: meaningful gun control, with meaningful being anything which will have any real impact, is impossible at this time. It would not pass the House, it would not pass the Senate (even with filibuster reform), President Obama would not sign it, and the USSC would rule it unconstitutional.

In the meantime we are expending political capital and riling up a bunch of nutcases for little actual purpose. Gun violence sucks. ALL violence sucks. But we are not going to be able to address this issue with a chainsaw. We have to be smarter than that, and that's going to take two things:

A. It's going to take time.

B. It's going to take calm rational discussion and acceptance. We need to listen and understand the beliefs and concerns of firearms owners. They have to be a major part of the solution or they will damn sure become the problem.

In the meantime I would love to see us focus our attention onto issues that don't require constitutional amendments to advance. Things like ending fracking, ending NAFTA and other FTAs, strengthening unions, repairing our infrastruction, education reform, ending the ACA and replacing it with some form of single payer option, actually curbing banks and financial marauders, making a start on global warming, ending poverty, repairing our infrastructure, repairing our shredded safety net, taking care of the tens-of-millions of hungry families, taking care of our homeless, ending the damn wars, eliminating Patriot and domenstic spying, bringing our war criminals to justice.

You know, easy stuff that only requires a vote. Stuff that EVERYONE wants.
