80 marijuana plants located inside home damaged by fire

Firefighters discovered about 80 marijuana plants, along with heat lamps, ventilation equipment and hazardous electrical-wiring system Wednesday while responding to a fire at a North San Jose home.

San Jose firefighters were called at 3:10 p.m. to a two-story home located on Fumia Place off Oakland Road and found smoke and flames coming from the second floor, according to fire Capt. Reggie Williams. The home suffered major damage, Williams said.

When firefighters entered the home they discovered heat lamps and ventilation equipment commonly used in illegal indoor marijuana growing operations, Williams said.

A portion of the second-story floor collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze, but no one was injured, Williams said. Some marijuana plants and lamps fell through a large hole, which was about 4 feet by 4 feet, Williams said.

Do they know if the person living in the home was growing illegally? They probably should have gone to code for their wiring, but growing weed in Ca is NOT illegal if you have a prescription.

San Jose police said tenants bypassed the electrical panel and illegally installed a dangerous electrical system in the house. Police say they recovered about 80 partially grown plants.

I'm willing to bet that plants were illegal too

It could have had nothing to do with the grow set up. We'll have to wait for more.
