(11,464 posts)Rest in peace Ed.
Peace be with you.
It sounded like yesterday was real bad.
He was a fighter.
Will always remember him as the person who stood on the Brooklyn Bridge and asked
"how am I doing"
Official word is now in.

(11,464 posts)like him or hate him, or both
you could look up NYC in the dictionary and find a picture of him, a true New Yorker.
Never at a loss for words or an argument and never waivering in his viewpoint no matter which one it was good or bad.
(and I will never forgive Andrew and Mario Cuomo for THAT slur that WAS indeed done on him during the Cuomo-Koch race for Governor.
It was there. It was a whisper that was LOUD and everyone heard it.
And as parts of NYS are NOT liberal, it may have been the difference.
So will never forgive either of them, no matter what Mario and Andrew have done or not done before or after.
If Mayor Koch has a public funeral, it will be attended by 1000s and 1000s.
The temple will be way overfilled (if it is public).
It will be within the next 24-48 hours as is the norm in the Jewish religion.

(29,257 posts)It's not the word you meant and it isn't true either. New York is New York, Koch or no Koch.
He was quintessential in that he represented an aspect of New York very strongly.
But essential? Nope. New York would be New York without Ed Koch.
Are you from NY? Mario Cuomo is a hero of mine. Koch was amusing. Cuomo was brilliant.
