Outside the system.
If you live where I do and you want change, voting isn't much of an option. My state went from moderately blue to entrenched red. Voting won't change that. Why you ask? A rigged system. When you live in a rigged system, it doesn't matter if you have a majority. The minority party rules. No matter what. You may be able to change the party of the Governor. But if you can't affect the legislative body, you can't make the rules on how the state is governed. You really won't have much say in it either because under minority party rule, they can simply ignore you because they can't be unseated. So working inside the system no longer makes any sense. You have to politically fight in such a system through uniting groups fighting for change, not political parties. So life changes for those of us in such a system and therefore, your approach has to change to make a difference.
To better understand the dilemma, take a moment to read this LTTE in the Raleigh News & Observer from Larry D. King, chair of Common Cause. We first now, have to concentrate on fighting and changing the system before we can get to such luxuries the rest of you enjoy.
