The Official "I couldn't care less..." Thread

Whenever there's a big mass cultural event, the Superbowl, the Oscars, the World Cup, the Olympics, the Grammys, Downton Abbey, the NCAA basketball tournament, the new Star Trek movie, a new Lady Gaga album, a new Batman movie, whatever... there's always a thread where someone proclaims that they have no interest in it.

So, in order to expedite matters, let this thread be the Official "I could not care less..." thread. Please feel free to post any major event that you don't have an interest in. This will save us all time and energy.

Post away.

1. Meh. It's so easy to be ambivalent. Passion is where it's at.

I love the Super Bowl.

I totally love the NCAA basketball tournament.

Some movies actually live up to the hype.

I love going to concerts with my son. Big name, indie, whatever.

3. Reason anticipates permanence, changelessness, and immutability as the quality of ultimate reality.

But immutability is an impossibility. Nothing immutable is empirically conceivable; for if something doesn’t move in space, it at least moves in time. The tension between the immutable and the mutable produces ennui, the sense of tediousness and vexation associated with the absence of immutable or lasting purpose in the cosmic phenomena of change.

Boredom, indeed, is merely the metaphysical turbulent emotion that arises out of that paradox of the rational sense of immutability and the empirical sense of mutation.

Or, as I think Marbaniang was trying to put it, if there were more dancing animals in it, I'd probably watch the Superbowl more often.

At least you didn't say you could care less. Nails on the blackboard that one is to me.

7. Recommending because you posted "couldn't care less" instead of the ungrammatical "could care less"

9. Ya know, I went through that cynical stage

where I thought that everything was "shit" (South Park reference). Especially movies, which I used to dearly love. I thought I was "cool" because I could tear everything apart. But, I was denying myself the happiness of actually enjoying anything.

After a point, I realized that it was all a matter of expectations and personal enjoyment.

I began by expecting everything to "suck". When the suckage was less than I expected, then I was pleasantly surprised! And I found myself enjoying it!

Now, I can still appreciate amd enjoy the more "intellectual" movies, but since I have lowered my expectations I find that I can enjoy movies that even few others can enjoy.

The net result - I am much happier!

10. Well, some people don't like US football.

I am one of them. I have never watched a Stupid Bowl, and likely never will.

US football is an excuse for expensively produced advertisements, most notably the Stupid Bowl.

It's an inane exercise, not even good sport, IMHO.

But that's just my opinion. You are welcome to disagree (unlike this OP).

The take away here is that not everybody likes US football. I much prefer the Australian version -- no padding; ball is always in play; play stops only when it goes out of bounds and only for seconds; played on a huge oval cricket grounds; lots of scoring; a sport that goes back to 1859.

Here is football, or as the Aussies call it, "Footy", a four minute example from the AFL Grand Finale:

These guys don't wear padding and they do not stop running for an entire quarter except for out of bounds. It's fun to watch.
IMHO.

And the only way to move the ball is to hit it to your mate with your fist (no passing allowed) or to kick it. It is one exciting sport. Too bad it's difficult to see in the US now that MHz Networks stopped carrying the AFL.

I became a fan.

Go Sydney Swans!

I just thought that instead of a new post every time a major mass cultural event happens wherein someone proclaims that they could not care less about said event, we'd just compact it into one thread.

For example, next week is the Grammys. You can just use this thread to proclaim that you could not care less about the Grammys.

In two weeks, the Oscars. In March, there's the NCAA tourney. In April, Game of Thrones returns, etc.
