Since the "God made a farmer" ad has renewed public awareness of Paul Harvey, one of the creepiest pricks of the post-war era and in some ways the godfather of the AM radio wing-nut movement...
My favorite Simpson's line (which is saying a LOT) for intellectual depth and satirical efficiency is this, heard on the radio during the Homer's Barbershop Quartet episode, in a fine impression of Paul Harvey.
I can't find vid on youtube. Feel free to share it if you know where it may be.

(8,556 posts)Not coincidentally he also did the Harvey voice on the show. They referenced him other times as well and those had a more jokey, endearing quality.
For many years I've been an on and off listener of Shearer's radio show and I happened to catch the episode after Paul Harvey died. He spent a lot of time on him and played a few long clips of Harvey saying some pretty liberal stuff. They are almost exactly a generation apart and I got the sense that Shearer had always looked up to him. It was interesting because of course Shearer is very liberal.

(13,485 posts)comments about Paul Harvey are coming from. My family knew him, actually, my mother dated Paul in high school, Central High in Tulsa, OK. They were good friends for years after. He knew Billy Graham, Hoover, McCarthy, but they weren't buddies. The fact is, he knew everyone in politics and just about everywhere else. That's just how he was. He was a history buff and a radio entertainer. Though he was politically liberal He never made waves or pushed a position... just gave unusual revealing history lessons.
If there's something I'm missing, let me know. But Paul was about as friendly and liberal a man as I ever met.
