a DNA match- he's a direct descendent of Richard's sister, actually bears quite a strong resemblance to the famous portrait of Richard III. At least I think so.

(101,331 posts)In reality, it all comes down to the Act of Settlement of 1701, which restricts the crown to the descendants of Sophia of Hanover. But, even if it's a question of property, he's not a descendant of Richard III, but of his sister Anne - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_of_York,_Duchess_of_Exeter . She or her descendants weren't deprived of property; at the time of death of Edward IV, Edward V and Richard III, she didn't have any male descendants, so they couldn't have inherited the throne then. Henry VII married Edward IV's daughter (Henry VIII was their son) to give his family a claim to the crown though both York and Lancaster.
