(10,926 posts)The power outage is now a union referendum (um, yeah...nothing made by unions ever has issues...cough cough auto recalls cough cough), and indicative of "crumbling" infrastructure (except that nothing other than the Superdome seems to have lost power). While infrastructure is crumbling for sure, this is not an example of it, and it makes people look stupid when they apply unlikely causes to common issues.
Whoops, sorry, gotta run...a circuit breaker just tripped in my house and I have to go use my finger to click it back on. Or wait...maybe it's a harbinger of DOOM.

I think we discredit ourselves and illustrate our melodrama rather than our point when we consciously confuse the terms "example" and "referendum"... two words with wholly separate meanings. Which, I'd guess, also "makes people look stupid..."
But I imagine we'll rationalize our own stupidity as a valid device, whilst decrying that of others. It's a human trait.
