If you’re unfamiliar with the Skeet Truther movement, it goes something like this. (And I’m reciting this from memory because I’ll be good and goddamned if I’m going to actually open new browsers and conduct Google searches to determine what I already know, which is that half this country is fucking insane.

Then, for some unknown reason, the White House released a photo of President Obama holding a rifle or shotgun or whatever. (Yes, I’m one of those effete liberals who has never held a gun and doesn’t know buckshots from jell-o shots.) Glenn Kessler, WaPo‘s “Fact Checker” (sarcastic air quotes plus eye roll) wrote a goddamn diatribe about the photo. Why was there only one photo? How come we’ve never seen any other photos of Obama shooting guns? Obama said “we skeet shoot all the time” which means he’s done it more than once, so how come he only released one photo? If Obama shoots skeet in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does the Pope shit in the woods?

And then came the full-on crazy, which Katie McDonough has helpfully summarized at Salon – “Skeet-gate Rocks Conservative Internet” – so I don’t have to. Essentially, tens of idiots have rushed to debunk as ZOMG! PHOTOSHOPPE!!11 the photograph of Obama shooting something with some sort of shooty-thing.
