I flew for TWA and Pan Am was a major competitor, but I always admired their pioneering accomplishments and the flying boats.

Some early photos taken while the bridge was under construction, others photos with the bridge completed.

I didn't know Alameda was Pan Am's first Clipper port in the Bay Area. I always thought it was Treasure Island, but then again, there was no Treasure Island in 1934.

Pan American World Airways' Clipper in the seaplane harbor at Treasure Island about 1940. The site of the 1939-1940 Worlds fair was to become San Francisco International Airport in 1941. However, the Navy seized the island in 1942, shortly after World War II began, and it became Treasure Island Naval Station .
