Sandy Hook choir to sing at Grammys

A children’s choir from Newtown has been in the national spotlight as of late, performing on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ and the Super Bowl.

Now, the group is looking forward to yet another major appearance — the Grammy Awards.

The Children of Newtown — a group comprised of Sandy Hook Elementary School students and other town youths — will sing their rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” before the live broadcast of the awards on Sunday, Feb. 10. The group will also be performing Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will be flying a crew to Connecticut and plans to interview the children via satellite during the E!’s “Live From the Red Carpet” pre-show, said Tim Hayes, who co-produced the recording.

Copies of the group’s version of “Over the Rainbow,” recorded with the help of Ingrid Michaelson and Fairfield residents Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, are on sale on Amazon and iTunes.
