Try the period between the issuance of your monthly bills and your payment will shrink. Without the Saturday letter delivery, you may risk having less than 10 days to find the money and get it to the creditor on time.
Let's say your credit card company sends out your invoice as it usually does. But it arrives at your post office on Friday afternoon, after your home delivery has been done. That bill waits until Monday, specifically Monday night when you come home. Let's say you even have the money ready and you mail the payment right away the next day on Tuesday. It isn't going out until Tuesday afternoon or night. That's a delay from Friday to Tuesday, more than half a week. Your payments may arrive past the date they are due, and you incur interest and late fees as a result.
It will Russian Roulette with your bills as some will be delivered Mon-Fri and others will languish for 3-4 days.

(13,552 posts)usually they arrive on Sat. and go to CU on Monday morning.
Also Netflix, if I forget to send off right away, won't be getting the movie for the weekend.

(32,704 posts)it seems like in the final days of my membership, they began to ship at a much slower pace, no matter how quickly I returned the movies. On average I ended up with 1 movie a week.

(38,613 posts)and the day the check goes out depends on what day of the week my 2nd payday falls on.
Then again, I may not be a good example, since I've been meaning to manage my money better, so I don't have to rely on the timing of that 2nd payday

(22,308 posts)As far as I am concerned, the post office could cut costs by stopping by my house on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while going elsewhere on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday. Or vice versa.
Not having a delivery on Saturday does not bother me in the least.

(5,417 posts)I use online bill pay, so I don't get, or mail any bills in the mail.
Even when I did, I never got a bill on Sat that couldn't wait a week to get around to mailing it.
I really doubt 1 day makes a difference.
Before it would arrive on sat, you couldn't mail on Sunday, so it went out Monday morning.
Now it arrives Monday morning, and it goes out Tuesday. The difference is one day.

(3,249 posts)I haven't gotten a bill or paid by mail in many years. All my bills are auto paid by my credit card and I get the bill for that on-line and pay it on line. Most letters I get are junk mail. I can wait until Monday for anything else.
ecstatic
(32,704 posts)Even if you choose not to do recurring automatic payments, most companies allow you to see your bill online, and most banks offer online bill pay. Maybe some companies will provide an additional day for payment. If not, it's time to step into the 21st century.

(1,039 posts)I generally only check my mail once or twice a week as it is.
With a few odd exceptions that are already programmed into Quicken as reminders, I don't get bills in the mail.
For me, the mail brings movies, magazines, an occasional package, and loads and loads of waste.
Are bill notices really that tight? It's been literally more than 20 years since I've both received and paid bills via mail, but I recall having 2-3 weeks from when a bill arrived until it was due. Has the time window really tightened that much?

(34,136 posts)We check our P. O. Box 2-3 times a week, the street box maybe 1-2 times a week. Nothing important is supposed to be sent to the street address since the box is not visible from anywhere on my farm and the delivery person will NOT bring anything to the house. in fact, I am not sure they could find the house even if they came up the drive - they haven't yet.
Most of my payments are now done electronically.

(12,081 posts)Every so often we get a letter in the mail about when he has to resubmit paperwork from his doctor declaring he is still unable to work. Sometimes we get the letter just a day or two before the papers are due. There is a part of me that wonders if they do this hoping to make us late just so they can deny his disability. It can really come down to the wire sometimes.

(20,234 posts)I don't have any bills that arrive at the house so close to the due date that responding Tuesday instead of Monday would matter.
Edit to add: My bills are paid online mainly, but I recognize it's a matter of privilege to assume everyone has that level of financial stability. I've got some friends with no bank accounts. One cancelled his because he had an emergency $50k medical bill he couldn't pay. Now he's afraid if he deposits a paycheck the debt collectors will find a way to garnish it. His "savings account" consists of a stack of 10-20 paychecks he hasn't got around to cashing yet.

Most bills are paid electronically. So any delay in getting the statement is more than made up for by the speed of initiating the payment on the net.

(3,118 posts)- one less vehicle to dodge on the roads on Saturday so that's a good thing. As far as all the concerns about one day impacting your billing/payment cycle - that would be true if this was 1973. Most everyone now has the ability to check their bills online and make payment the same way.

(310 posts)I do everything online as it is. Even Social Security is eliminating checks March of this year.
I just got my Passport Card and it was delivered to the door by DHL.
In the last few months I have written 3 checks, one to the State Dept. for the passcard and 2 to my dentist in Mexico because he doesn't do plastic. The bank doesn't even mail out cancelled checks anymore. It's all online.
I have 2 GrandSpawn in the military, one in Germany and one in Japan, and between email, messaging, texting and Skype I can communicate with them anytime I want. Many times we do a 3 way video session. They have little or no concept of "mail call", it just doesn't compute to them.

(249 posts)Apparently since 1968, the change was made here in Canada. No one complains we just know it is Monday to Friday.
Now I am sure at that time there were a lot of complaints. Mind you at that time there were a lot more letters being sent.
We get more junk mail then anything else since computers came in...

(23,156 posts)I had actually thought a few months ago that they must have cut it out already, because I get mail every other day of the week but not on Saturday. I only know that they're still delivering it that day because I often happen to go by the cluster of mailboxes on that day when the happy postal employees is putting mail in. Just never mine.
However, I'm appalled that this is going through. I also suspect that the Monday mail deliveries will tend to arrive much later than day because of all the mail that formerly was delivered on Saturday that now had to wait through the weekend. There will be a huge pile-up of Monday mail.
