Look at the Santa Monica Post Office an WPA Art Deco building - to be sold off to and no doubt made
into a Starbucks or worse

(14,087 posts)I'm sick of republicans running rough shod over every institution that represents a reasonable society: Post Office, Soldiers, Schools and Prisons. They are all corporatized, and that, my friends, is WRONG.

(39,313 posts)Go Post Office! So mad they're getting rid of our historic WPA post office. When I tell people I see there -- they are flabbergasted. We'll have to shuffle off to a bad location in an industrial building

(4,187 posts)I signed both the SignOn petition and the Nation petition and urge everyone to do the same.
It's not until you live in other countries that you realize how good the USPS is. When I lived in Switzerland, not only was the service much more expensive, but mail often got lost. I would have packages sent to me, and they would sometimes be returned claiming incorrectly that I did not live at my address. (The mail delivery person didn't check the names on the mailboxes carefully enough to realize that my name was, indeed, on my mailbox.) I would have to pay extra for registered service to make sure mail I sent would actually be delivered. (I learned that pretty quickly, after a check I sent to the U.S. got lost.)
If we don't do something, we will lose our USPS, and by the time we realize how good it was, it'll be too late to bring it back.
