It isn't the gun, it is who has the gun. Ordinary couples don't fly into violent rages against each other. Whenever there is a domestic murder, the couple almost always has a history of violence. Domestic abusers, upon conviction, are already barred from owning guns.

My wife is alive because she had a gun when she needed it - twice. Twice she was about to be mugged but when the thug realized that she had a gun he turned and fled, both times, no shots fired. Since she is a senior citizen, small and somewhat frail, she would not have survived the incident if he had attacked.

The vast majority of married couples don't get violent with each other. Those are "ordinary couples".
