East Coast peeps, gird yourselves !!!

(Bloomberg) A “potential historic winter storm” and blizzard may dump 2 feet of snow on Boston and eastern Massachusetts, potentially causing power outages and leaving 10 inches in New York City.

Eighteen to 24 inches (46 to 61 centimeters) of snow may fall in Boston, and the city has an 85 percent chance of receiving at least 12 inches from the storm that is expected to arrive in two days, according to the latest forecast from National Weather Service in Taunton, Massachusetts, published at at 4:25 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

“Heavy snow and gusty winds will bring the potential for blizzard conditions. The worst of the storm will be Friday night into the morning,” the weather service said.

The storm arrives on almost the 35th anniversary of the Blizzard of 1978, which killed 99 people, destroyed 2,000 homes, drove 10,000 residents into shelters and paralyzed eastern Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island for a week, according to the weather service. ..............(more)

2003 and 2011 saw storms like this on an almost weekly basis. The inauguration storm of 2005 was equally monstrous...and I have fond memories of sledding out the second story window after the Blizzard of '78.

Just another day in paradise.

Three feet of heavy wet snow. It all melted in three days, and the old Kenmore Sq. Green Line station flooded to the top of the steps when the Muddy River went over its banks. After they drained it, there were dead fish all over the tracks.

Pic of the station: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GJMowzMPXgQ/TlgIdu7DZ3I/AAAAAAAAAP0/IGXsGChQyhY/s1600/kenmore+flood+1996+10.8+inches.jpg

P.S., I was living in San Francisco at the time, laughing my whole ass off.

It's cold outside!!!!!

Love the snow and the Blizard of 78 has some of my fondest memories, but no power means cold+no work/no pay.

I'm up north of Boston and it might get up close to 3 feet. Yikes!

Hoping to spend the weekend at a friends house with a woodburning stove just in case.

We get potholes because the snowplow blades have to ride just above the pavement, and they tend to dig up chunks of road as they do their thing. That, and the salt they lay down eats cars.

a local roofer and his buddy shoveled it off for about 2 hours. Governor Malloy went on TV warning folks to clear the snow off their flat roofs or they would collapse. Some didn't and the roofs did collapse...

They had to get a helicopter to fly over the roofs of all the municipal buildings to see how they were holding up. She arranged for me to get pulled out of school so I could ride in the helicopter. I was seven. It was all the cool that ever was or will ever be.

Please check on your elderly or infirm neighbors and see if you can maybe stop at the grocery or drug store for them on your way home tonight.
