Thank you Pell grant and Perkins Loans. I'm 38 years old and loving life.

I just want to say, I may complain about the workload and the hours of reading/writing at times, but I am so thankful for my opportunity to attend college.

I got to spend an hour and a half today talking about Thucydides telling of the history of the Peloponnesian War and really, the foundations a radical new democracy as well as the perils of an imperial overstretch.

Then we framed the discussion around the idea of democracy being prone (or not) to empire due to it's restless and constantly striving citizenry. Moving on from Thucydides, tonight I get to begin reading The Republic of Plato.

It all just kind of makes my brain fire in a personally fulfilling and exciting new way. I really am thankful for this opportunity to grow.

I loved my years at the University. And though I continue to grow and develop, constantly challenging myself with new topics or more detailed examinations of the old, there was something magical about studying in a rarefied atmosphere, something exhilarating about being challenged at every turn by people just as intellectually curious, just as adamant for their own ideals.

I've told my wife, if we ever win the lottery, I'm going back to school.

college student, I feel like I'm getting away with some kind of frivolity, but I know better, and I know I absolutely love it.

My people were Okies on my Mother's side. They picked stone fruit in the San Joaquin when they first arrived in California. For me to acquire the education I have, and now do the type of work I am so fortunate to love, I count myself blessed in many inarticulable ways.
