NEWS IN BRIEF Politics ISSUE 4906 Feb 7, 2013
WASHINGTONFollowing the release of a secret Department of Justice memo this week that outlines the administrations legal justification for killing U.S. citizens, a new Pew Research Center poll has revealed that a majority of Americans are torn over whether they support the governments right to kill them anywhere at any time without due process.
On the one hand, I get itits important for the government to be able to murder me and any of my friends or family members whenever they please for reputed national security reasons. But on the other hand, it would kind of be nice to stay alive and have, maybe, a trial, actual evidencestuff like that, said visibly conflicted 39-year-old Nashua, NH resident Rebecca Sawyer, who, like millions of other Americans, is split over whether secret federal agents should be allowed to target and assassinate her anywhere on U.S. soil.
I wouldnt mind if federal officials blew up other citizens and claimed it was in the name of my safety. But its just that when it comes to me, I guess Id rather not be slaughtered by my own elected officials on charges that never have to be validated by any accountable authority. This is tough.
While most Americans expressed conflicted feelings regarding the memo, the poll also found that 28 percent of citizens were unequivocally in favor of being obliterated at any point, for any reason, in a massive airstrike.

(15,689 posts)(In a way.) We've let them get away with assassination and mass murder in other countries for so long now, it was inevitable that they'd turn their guns on us. What did we do to make them think they couldn't?
We're outraged now, because the Imperator claims the right to assassinate any one of us without public charges, evidence, or due process of any kind. The outrage is correct from a legal view, but tardy from a moral view. Countless thousands of victims of US sponsored terror against unions and citizens rights groups in Latin America say, "Welcome To The Club!" from their shallow graves. Countless thousands of more victims in IndoChina and the Middle East ask, "What kept you so long?"

(2,088 posts)don't know, that disagrees with them politically or insults their sensibility (some jackhole celebrity).
if it's one of those people, bombs away!
if it isn't, they are opposed to it.
i would hazard to guess most of those 24% are teabaggers, truthers, birthers, militia members, klansman, bigots, Christian Fundies, Fred Phelps types and the rest of that ilk, meaning Republican American haters.
Just remember: republicans love america, hate americans.

The marketing team, which reportedly cited results from focus groups and surveys that revealed a widespread perception of the state as misguided, intolerant, and poorly educated, has strongly encouraged U.S. officials to downplay its connections with Alabama and to avoid being seen in any of its cities.Though they clarified that their recommendation was solely a business decision and was not meant to belittle Alabama, the consultants reportedly emphasized that the nation must take steps to suppress every facet of the 22nd states ignominious reputation..
At press time, sources indicated that government officials were also considering the PR firms recommendation that they slowly phase out Mississippi over the next five years.
