Tennessee Christian quits job, refuses to file taxes over ’666′ on W-2 form

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/02/07/tennessee-christian-quits-job-refuses-to-file-taxes-over-666-on-w-2-form/

Walter Slonopas told The Tennessean that he resigned from his job as a maintenance worker at Contech Casting LLC because Christians consider “666? to be the “Number of the Beast” and he did not want to go to hell.

“If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil,” he explained.

666

For his part, Slonopas is refusing to file his taxes until he gets the new form. And he insisted that going back to work for Contech would send the wrong message.

“God is worth more than money,” he pointed out.

And yet, the company says they'd love to have him back. I'm betting that's for PR and they don't really mean it. If I were his boss or HR at Contech I'd be happy to be rid of him. What's he going to find next that is objectionable to his religion and cause a stink about at work? Especially now that's he's gotten so much attention and reinforcement with this issue. I can only imagine what he's like around other employees. I'd be willing to bet he tries to save them from their sinful lives by helping them find Jesus.

If I were Contech I would have told him use the W-2 you already have to file your return or you can become a tax evader by not filing a return. See if God keeps you from being charged with tax evasion and possible jail time for that. His choice, not Contech's. Contech has no obligation to spend more money on this guy to have their payroll processing company produce a new W-2 for him. Especially since he has pretty clearly stated he's not going back to work for them.

For background, I was born and raised in TN in a small town with less than 20k people at the time. Clarksville, as of the 2010 census, has over 132k people and my hometown is only up to just over 30k people as of 2010. You might expect people in a smaller town in the South to be more like this guy than those in a larger town. But they weren't in my home town. This guy is an anomaly. So don't apply his nuttiness to all people in TN.
