those who are interested... this story has everything.... and Dorner has a flair for the dramatic.
Dead cops.
Dead lovers.
Civilians errantly shot by scared cops.
A trained killer targeting his teachers.
Dorner has auto weapons & night vision.
He is media savvy and uses facebook.
He is hansome and always smiling.
A failed yacht jacking.
A torched truck abandoned in the snow.
Abandoned clothing/badge found in S.D.
Bullet ridden gold LAPD coin sent to CNN.
A chilling manifesto w/advice for Tebow.
This multistate Rambo-type manhunt has already taken us to the snowy peaks of the Sierras, North San Diego and Vegas and he is still on the loose.
I have never seen anything like this story.

(102,292 posts)prior to all this, there seemed to be at least some a bit about him that I could have possibly agreed with, at least in terms of what little I know of his professed desire to fight back against corruption and abuse of power. Of course his protestations about fighting against police corruption may well be BS and manufactured in a pathetic attempt to defend his own horrific actions, but if they are wholly not...?
I find that aspect unnerving. We like to see the "bad guys" as completely and uni-dimensionally "bad (and clearly his actions over the past days fit that truly "evil mode" and can NEVER be justified... Yet, he is a seeming paradox and it does make it very hard to reconcile his actions. He certainly is hard to stereotype in the ways we have come to feel comfortable in doing with mass murderers.
But, the entire saga is nothing short of bizarre--at the same time, horrific.

(20,277 posts)it is kind of hard for me to take him seriously (in terms of his cause). I have no doubt about police departments having some corruption in them. Completely bizarre, murderous behavior doesn't help his 'cause', if he had one.

(5,865 posts)has a checkered past. Not trying to defend it but law enforcement is a symptom of the society it protects. As groovy as California may be, there is another side to it. Also, again not trying to defend but it was really not that long ago that we were policed by sheriff's and this place had cowboys. I really think the current situation has vestiges of the old ways.
As far as Dorner the man goes. Maybe he is on steroids. He certainly is a megalomaniac. He is certainly disassocated from reality on many levels. I bet we will be hearing from family members and classmates soon. This will be tabloid fodder for a long time.
I do hope no one else gets hurt. I am captivated.
