Still remember my first quake when I was living in Ridgecrest. Was over before I knew what it was (was sleeping when it hit).

Coolest one was when I was up at cerra cosa community college walking around with my girlfriend as the sun was setting. A bat flew by us and as I pointed it out things started shaking.

Back in Ohio now, miss the desert and mountains.....

Earthquakes are a lot scarier. (And I grew up in California)

After 9 days of Sandy in the dark, we already lost power for a few minutes earlier, and the heavy part of the storm isn't even here yet (later tonight, into tomorrow).

At least in the winter, one can save their food by putting it outside instead of having to toss all of it. (though of course one has to watch for the animals getting a good meal)

Mass. is suppose to get up to 30 inches of snow. We are predicted for 10 to 15.

It is pretty when it is falling.

13. I LOVE snow. I just got sick to death of shoveling it and scraping ice off my windshield

when I lived in CO. And I was always a little fearful out driving in snowstorms, but that was pre-cellphones, lol.

We can get BITTER cold here with biting winds and cold rain, and snow on the nearby hills. We have had several nights this year that dropped below freezing. The Valley is much colder (AND much hotter) than the lovely coastal areas.......and we're only 5 miles away.

I grew up in the Chicago area in the 70's and I have great memories of them. I moved south after college and raised my family down here. I always feel bad that my kids don't have any "real" snow to play in in the winter.

That said, I hope everyone in the northeast is able to stay warm and safe through it all and that the people without homes are able to get into a shelter. I know that I had the luxury of having fun in the snow, but it's not that way for many...

16. Having experienced earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and tornadoes.

I now live where there are no earthquakes and volcanoes. I'm 200 miles from the coast, blizzards are extremely rare and tornadoes are not that common right where I live. Everything else I can deal with.

My hard and fast rule is that I don't live where the ground moves or the mountains smoke.
