Internet groups form in support of fugitive ex-cop

Just hours after police named the subject of what has become one of the largest manhunts in California's history, social media groups have sprung up in support of the fugitive ex-cop, Christopher Dorner. Believed to be responsible for at least three murders and several assaults in recent days, Dorner's whereabouts are currently unknown and he is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Meanwhile, his Facebook "manifesto" has garnered much attention for its anti-police corruption rantings.

As of late Thursday night, there are already at least five different pages that have been started on Facebook in support of Dorner, who was an LAPD officer from 2005 to 2008. One page with over 800 "likes" states, "A man with morals and a hero. A real rebel with a cause...Have respect for a man who is willing to die for something instead of living for nothing." Another page entitled, Chris Dorner and the Revolution states, "Mr. Chris Dorner is currently being hunted down by the LAPD. This page has been created in support of his revolt and the sustaining of his life along with the needed eradication of police corruption."

In reaction to the outrage expressed in some comments, one Facebook page host replied, "I agree killing innocent people is not a good way to get a point across. But do you guys complain when we do it in other countries to men women and children?"

Fired from the LAPD in 2008 and later stripped of his position as a Navy Reservist, Mr. Dorner's spree of attacks began on the evening of February 3 in Irvine with the slaying of Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence, and continued in the early morning hours of February 7 with the attack of two officers in Corona, and the ambush of two Riverside officers shortly after, resulting in one death.
