Psychologically fascinating. In the shower but not in the water. In the mirror but not looking at the mirror.

Very American in context.

Both of the paintings depict W cleansing himself in a self portrait. One in a bath and one in a shower.

What is he washing off?

Why don't they address the viewer like a traditional self portrait?

It's very interesting indeed.

reflection, a human body & a missing arm . . .

Certainly amateurism has some to do with it, but the design choices are interesting nonetheless.

I don't even find his technique primitive. It's very much in the mainstream of American art with the psychological riff of an Ionesco play. Normal, mundane, disturbing.

The church painting was blah. The self-portraits are stunning.

I would love to see his sketchbook.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/02/08/what-critics-are-saying-about-george-w-bush-s-hacked-paintings.html

It's kind of an odd position for a self portrait. I think if someone brought it to an art school critique, the reaction would be horrified fascination. If he keeps up drawing for a few years though, he's got some promise.

I commend anyone who does art/self expression. My thoughts are he must like the look of his back, and it is kind of a student type of painting, with the self-portrait, and general composition.
