(4,309 posts)Intelligent, warm classy and caring. Can you imaging Barbara Bush wearing a peace symbol necklace? I can't.
"Down the home stretch of the campaign trail, Mrs. O was regularly spotted wearing a distinctive and optimistic pair of necklaces - one displaying a silver "Hope" charm and the other a petite diamond peace sign."
Sure wish I could photoshop a pic of Babs with a Peace Sign around her neck...
Michelle on the other hand is our First Lady of grace and charm. Damn, Kath she is everything you said and so much more. She inspires us, as does her husband, and her daughters. What a role model this first Family is to our Country!
To them and all of us!
I had to LOL! Would love to see that (Babs with a Peace Sign around her neck)! That would be hilarious!
Wasn't she stiff, cardboard, fake and out of touch? Not to mention the wife of a horrible president.
Everything Michelle is, thankfully, not.

(52,162 posts)Elanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Dolly Madison all would have to rank above her. Roosevelt was her husbands legs and helped lead him on racial issues, Ford saved millions of women from death via cancer and alcoholism, and Madison saved the treasures of the White House from the British.

(153,169 posts)she was so open about her demons; I know she helped a lot of people. That being said, I do think Michelle Obama is doing a great job and is doing America proud.

(1,277 posts)Jackie Kennedy redecorated it in powder blue and white, placing a pastel portrait of her daughter on the wall, with a favorite terra-cotta bust of a child on the mantelpiece. She had double beds pushed together as one, draped by a powder blue tapestry. Since the Fords the room has been shared by the spouses.
The paper went on to describe her as "a product and symbol of the cultural and political times doing the Bump dance along the corridors of the White House, donning a mood ring, chatting on her CB radio with the handle First Mama a housewife who argued passionately for equal rights for women, a mother of four who mused about drugs, abortion and premarital sex aloud and without regret."[17] In 1975, in an interview with McCall's, Ford said that she was asked just about everything, except for how often she and the president had sex. "And if they'd asked me that I would have told them," she said, adding that her response would be, "As often as possible."[9]

(408 posts)but i will say, the first lady is very impressive. Reminds me of a stronger Lady Di. Those who know her love her. I think she'll go down in history a winner.

(3,894 posts)first lady. Her compassion and composure were WAY more tested than Michelle has had to deal with and Hillary showed and still does show herself to be the best first lady ever.

(24,096 posts)best First Lady ever. With what she has to endure how her beloved husband is being mistreated, she also has nerves of steel. Strongest FLOTUS.

(4,309 posts)I used to have the stupid and unreal hope that the one of the Bush twins or Babs would have joined in an anti-war demonstration, made an anti-war statement, said W is an A-hole... anything. It could have saved thousands of lives. Same thing with women's health care.
The racism and hatred directed at her husband is sickening. Makes me more committed to supporting him!
Michelle is amazing. She is a rock of love and support for President Obama. Forward!!!
